CarbonCure vs Giatec

Two ways a ready-mix producer can take cement out of its mixes. CarbonCure retrofits plant equipment that injects captured CO2 into concrete during mixing, where it mineralizes and lets producers reduce cement; Giatec sells SmartMix, AI quality-control software whose Roxi engine looks for over-design across a producer's mix portfolio, alongside in-truck monitoring and SmartRock strength sensors. Vendor pages read Oct 21, 2026; desk research, not tested, no winner.

What it doesCarbon utilization technology for concrete producers that injects captured CO2 into fresh concrete, allowing cement reductions. The vendor says the CO2 mineralizes and stays embedded, maintaining compressive strength while allowing cement reductions. Also generates and sells carbon credits, sharing revenue with producers. Vendor cites 10M+ truckloads produced across two dozen countries (vendor claim). A materials technology, not AI software. Re-read Oct 18, 2026: the technologies page says a Valve Box connected to an on-site CO2 tank doses the CO2 during mixing, a Control Box syncs with the plant's batching software, and the equipment is retrofitted in one visit; the Ready Mix page says producers reduce cement content by 3-5% on average and save 15-25 lb of CO2 per cubic yard (vendor claims). Re-read Oct 19, 2026: the technologies page adds that Control Box telemetry syncs to a CarbonCure Command Centre for remote support, with a 99% uptime claim, and that producers see system usage in myCarbonCure (vendor statements). Re-checked Oct 20, 2026: technologies page unchanged in substance (CO2 injected during mixing mineralizes into calcium carbonate; Valve Box on the on-site CO2 tank; Control Box integrated with the plant's batching software; one-visit retrofit; Command Centre telemetry and myCarbonCure usage summaries). It adds that in ready mix dry batch plants the CO2 goes into the hopper and in central mix or masonry plants into the central mixer (vendor statements). Re-checked Oct 21, 2026: homepage, technologies and Ready Mix pages unchanged in substance (CO2 injected during mixing forms calcium carbonate; Valve Box on the on-site CO2 tank, Control Box integrated with batching software, one-visit retrofit; Command Centre telemetry and myCarbonCure usage summaries; 3-5% average cement reduction and 15-25 lb of CO2 per cubic yard, vendor claims). The pages now show running counters of CO2 saved and truckloads delivered (vendor figures, not used).Smart concrete testing products: AI mix optimization, in-truck monitoring, wireless strength sensors, and NDT and lab equipment. Products listed: SmartMix (AI-powered mix optimization integrating dispatch and telematics data), MixPilot (in-truck, calibration-less monitoring of slump, temperature and volume from plant to pour), SmartRock wireless temperature and strength sensors (including SmartRock Long Range at up to 1,000 ft and SmartRock Pro, described as the first fully self-calibrating strength sensor), and NDT and lab equipment for corrosion rate, electrical resistivity and chloride penetration. The CSV records a C$17.5M Strategic Innovation Fund commitment for AI and sensor R&D. SmartMix page (read Oct 17, 2026): describes Roxi, an AI engine it says is trained on over 98 million cubic metres of concrete mix designs (vendor claim), that monitors every mix, finds and prioritizes cement-reduction opportunities and quantifies cost, CO2 and workability effects for review; also lists submittal generation (3-point curves, ACI statistical analysis, spec sheets), SmartDocs OCR for break reports, alerts for low breaks and out-of-spec tickets, an audit trail for mix changes, and cloud dispatch integrations with BCMI, Command Cloud, Jonel, Concrete Go and MDispatch. Re-checked Oct 19, 2026: SmartMix page unchanged in substance; it adds that Roxi tracks savings over time and separates Roxi-driven reductions from a producer's own adjustments, and that a customer's data helps improve Roxi's recommendations for that customer but stays the customer's and is not shared with third parties as individual data (vendor statements). The homepage still lists MixPilot, SmartRock Long Range and SmartRock Pro. Re-checked Oct 21, 2026: the SmartMix page has been redesigned and now calls SmartMix the leading AI-powered concrete quality control software for ready-mix producers, with Roxi identifying over-design across the mix portfolio and quantifying how much can be safely reduced; the shorter page no longer lists the dispatch integrations, submittal tools and alerts recorded above, so those details were not re-confirmed. It cites 27% cement reduction and 13% overall cost savings on first optimizations (vendor figures, not used). The homepage still lists SmartMix, MixPilot, Roxi and the SmartRock range, and a news item says Roxi has analyzed 100 million cubic yards of concrete data (vendor claim).

Where the vendor descriptions differ

  • How cement comes out (vendor wording): CarbonCure says the injected CO2 reacts with calcium ions from cement to form nano-sized calcium carbonate, which enhances cement hydration efficiency and protects strength so the mix can be adjusted; its Ready Mix page says producers reduce cement content by 3-5% on average and save 15-25 lb of CO2 per cubic yard. Giatec says SmartMix's Roxi identifies over-design across the mix portfolio and quantifies how much can be safely reduced, with optimization opportunities surfaced, prioritized and quantified for review. Both figures are vendor claims, not verified.
  • What gets installed: CarbonCure's equipment is retrofitted into a plant in one visit: a Valve Box connected to an on-site CO2 tank doses CO2 during mixing (into the hopper in dry batch plants, into the central mixer in central mix or masonry plants), and a Control Box syncs with the plant's batching software. Giatec's SmartMix is cloud software (our tool page records dispatch integrations with BCMI, Command Cloud, Jonel, Concrete Go and MDispatch from an earlier read); its hardware is separate: MixPilot in-truck monitoring of slump, temperature and volume and SmartRock wireless temperature and strength sensors.
  • AI (our reading): Giatec's SmartMix is AI software at its core, and it is tagged AI features added to an established product because Giatec also sells sensors and lab equipment. CarbonCure is a materials technology; its pages describe telemetry from each Control Box to a CarbonCure Command Centre and usage summaries in myCarbonCure, not AI, so it is tagged Not AI-first.
  • Carbon credits and quality support: CarbonCure says it generates and sells carbon credits from the CO2 its producers mineralize and shares the revenue with them, and describes installation, testing, check-ins and ongoing support as an extension of the producer's QC team. Giatec's pages describe QC workflows (our tool page records submittal generation, break-report OCR, low-break and out-of-spec alerts and an audit trail for mix changes).
  • Can they stack? Neither vendor page we read mentions the other. A producer could in principle run CarbonCure's CO2 dosing and SmartMix mix analysis together, but whether Roxi accounts for CO2-dosed mixes is not stated; ask both vendors.
  • Pricing (checked Oct 21, 2026): neither publishes prices. CarbonCure's /pricing returns a not-found page and the site offers Contact us; Giatec's /pricing returns a not-found page and the site offers Get a Quote and Request a Demo.
  • Not used here: CarbonCure's live counters (tonnes of CO2 saved, truckloads delivered, credit revenue) and customer quotes, and Giatec's 27% cement reduction, 13% cost savings and case-study ROI figures (vendor figures). Neither tool has been tested by Means & Methods Lab.
