Construction AI funding, mid-September to mid-October 2026: back office, design review, and autonomy
FUNDING BRIEF · PUBLISHED · UPDATED · SOURCES CHECKED OCT 15, 2026
This brief covers eight construction-technology financings announced in roughly a month, from mid-September to mid-October 2026. We picked deals where the company describes AI as central to the product and where we could read the announcement ourselves. Amounts, investors, and customer figures are exactly as stated in those announcements; company statements about customers and results are company claims, not verified by us. This is not a complete list of deals in the period.
Back office and accounting: three rounds
Adaptive announced a $30 million Series B on Sept. 17, 2026, led by Tidemark with participation from existing investors Emergence Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Pathlight, Definition, and 3KVC, bringing its total raised to $57 million. Adaptive calls itself an agentic accounting platform for construction; it says its Project Accounting Agents code invoices to job, phase, and cost code, match them against purchase orders, and draft change orders. The company says more than 750 construction companies run on Adaptive (company claim).
Miter announced a $40 million Series B on Sept. 30, 2026, led by Battery Ventures, with existing investors Bessemer Venture Partners and Coatue participating; Miter says that brings its total capital raised to $78 million. Miter describes itself as an AI-powered workforce management platform for construction (payroll, job costing, expenses, field operations). It names Clayco and Haugland Group as customers and says roughly two of every 100 American construction workers are paid through Miter (company claims).
reebuild, based in Vienna, raised a €3 million seed round led by Fortino Ventures, with Rise PropTech and CuriosityVC and existing backer Hansmann Family Office, according to EU-Startups (published Oct. 13, 2026). reebuild reads incoming invoices and documents into structured data for invoice review, cost management, and material tracking, and says it has processed more than €530 million in invoice volume across more than 120 construction companies and developers (company claims).
Preconstruction: takeoff and design review
Quotr announced a $4 million seed round on its blog on Sept. 30, 2026, thanking Llama Ventures and angel investors. Quotr describes an AI-native estimating and procurement platform that reads PDF or image plan sets for quantities, builds priced estimates and proposals, and offers a done-for-you estimating desk. It says contractors using Quotr have cut takeoff time by up to 80% (company claim, not verified).
Buildcheck, which is in our directory as an AI drawing-review service, raised a $12 million Series A led by Telescope Partners with participation from WND Ventures, the corporate venture arm of DPR Construction, according to PropTechBuzz. The report says the round came nine months after a $5.9 million seed, for $18 million in total funding, and that WND's investment followed a pilot of Buildcheck's technology.
Owners and capital programs
Kahua announced a minority growth investment from Bain Capital Tech Opportunities on Sept. 29, 2026, at a valuation above $1 billion; the amount invested was not stated in the announcement. Kahua describes itself as an AI enterprise construction platform for complex capital programs and says it has reached $100 million in annualized revenue and serves more than 2,500 customers, supporting more than $400 billion in capital programs (company claims).
Autonomy and sensing in the field
Autonomous Solutions, Inc. (ASI) announced on Sept. 24, 2026 that it formed a joint venture with SoftBank Group to develop and commercialize autonomous construction equipment for large infrastructure projects. Separately from the joint venture, ASI says SoftBank Group invested $225 million in ASI. ASI describes its Mobius platform as OEM-agnostic, for mixed fleets of haul trucks, dozers, loaders, and compactors.
Torch Systems announced $11.5 million in total funding in early October 2026: $9.5 million in equity from Khosla Ventures, Abstract, Construct Capital, and Starship Ventures, plus $2 million in venture debt from First Citizens Innovation Banking. Torch's solar-powered TerraNode devices combine optical and thermal cameras with acoustic, gas, and air-quality sensors and on-device AI for monitoring outdoor infrastructure such as solar farms and transmission corridors. The headline figure includes debt, so it is not an all-equity round.
What stands out
Our read, not a finding: three of the eight deals (Adaptive, Miter, reebuild) are for construction back-office software, where the AI pitch is reading invoices and job data rather than drawings. Two (Quotr, Buildcheck) are preconstruction tools that pair AI with human review or a done-for-you service, a model we also see in our directory (for example Beam AI's Done For You option). And the largest disclosed figure in this set, ASI's $225 million from SoftBank, is for autonomous heavy equipment, the category our robotics and equipment hubs cover.
Takeaways
- Back-office AI (accounting, payroll, invoice review) drew three of these eight rounds.
- Preconstruction AI vendors increasingly pair software with human review or done-for-you services.
- Customer counts and time savings in funding announcements are company claims; ask for references.
- Headline totals can mix equity and debt (Torch) or omit the amount (Kahua); read the release.
