EquipmentShare T3 vs Tenna

Two equipment tracking and fleet platforms for contractors with mixed fleets, from different kinds of company (our reading). EquipmentShare T3 is the technology platform of an equipment rental company that also runs its own rental fleet on it: asset trackers, an interlocking keypad for access control, a dual-view dash cam and Bluetooth tool tags. Tenna is an equipment management software company that sells its own trackers and cameras and lists maintenance, dispatch, compliance, job costing and production modules, with AI dash cams and machine-learning load counts. Desk research from vendor pages read Oct 24, 2026; not tested, no winner.

What it doesEquipmentShare's T3 technology platform for construction fleet management, with asset trackers, keypads, dash cams and tool tags. It offers asset trackers for equipment and vehicles, a cloud-connected interlocking keypad for access control and operator history, a dual-view (road and driver-facing) dash cam with in-cab visual and audio alerts for follow distance, forward-collision and distracted driving, Bluetooth tags for tools, buckets and attachments, after-hours movement alerts, maintenance tools and utilization reporting, and DOT/OSHA compliance reporting. The page also positions T3 as running EquipmentShare's own rental fleet. It quotes Yates Construction on an estimated 20% jobsite-efficiency improvement (vendor-published customer quote, not verified). The T3 page we read does not describe AI, so we tag it Not AI-first. Re-checked Oct 19, 2026: the T3 page is unchanged in substance: asset trackers (real-time GPS, engine mileage and utilization, geofencing and SMS alerts), the interlocking keypad, the dual-view dash cam and Bluetooth tags, with industry sections for construction fleets, commercial builders, civil contractors, GCs and utilities. Still no AI described. Re-checked Oct 20, 2026: unchanged in substance (asset trackers, keypad, dual-view dash cam, Bluetooth tags); still no AI described. Re-checked Oct 22, 2026: the T3 page is unchanged in substance (asset trackers with GPS, engine mileage, utilization, geofencing and SMS alerts; the cloud-connected interlocking keypad for access control; the dual-view dash cam with driver-behavior and incident tracking for DOT and OSHA needs; Bluetooth tags; after-hours movement alerts; sections for construction fleets, civil contractors and utilities). The page header now carries EquipmentShare's rental catalog menu. Still no AI described. Re-checked Oct 24, 2026: unchanged in substance (asset trackers, cloud-connected interlocking keypad, dual-view dash cam, Bluetooth tags, after-hours movement alerts, DOT and OSHA compliance reporting). The page title now calls T3 the OS for construction and the menu links T3 release updates. Still no AI described.Equipment management software that puts equipment, vehicles, tools, attachments, and materials in one system for tracking, maintenance and dispatch. Features listed: GPS tracking and geofences, utilization, preventive maintenance and work orders, dispatching, asset financials, AI dash cams with driver and operations scorecards, DVIR/ELD/IFTA compliance, and a Virtual Superintendent with automated load counts. Sells its own trackers (TennaCANbus, TennaCAM, TennaFLEET, and more) and integrates with OEM telematics and accounting/ERP. Vendor says 750+ construction businesses use it (vendor claim). Tenna announced Virtual Superintendent on Oct 6, 2026; its first module, Load Tracking, runs machine-learning models on 1 Hz telematics data to recognize loading, queuing, and dumping and to count haul cycles and quantities by job, with no added hardware (vendor description). Re-read Oct 18, 2026: its custom inspections page lists a template builder by asset category, role or compliance need (or an inspection library), pass/fail logic, conditionally required fields, photos and e-signatures, QR-code inspections that work offline, recurring or usage-based schedules, automatic repair requests in Tenna's maintenance module for failed items, inspections attached to dispatch drop-offs, and results that feed its Operations and Safety Scorecard. Re-checked Oct 20, 2026: unchanged in substance; the homepage also announces equipment job costing and billing powered by telematics as a new product, and the menu lists parts, mechanic time cards, cost codes and a TennaQR tracker. The separate equipment-management pricing URL now redirects to the same custom pricing form. Re-checked Oct 22, 2026: unchanged in substance; the homepage now also announces Load Tracking (automated load counts in Virtual Superintendent) alongside Asset Financials (equipment job costing and billing powered by telematics), says it is trusted by 750+ construction businesses (vendor claim) and promotes TennaU Live 2026 registration. Re-checked Oct 23, 2026: the homepage now says it is trusted by 800+ construction businesses (vendor claim; earlier notes said 750+), and the menu lists a Competitor Comparison page, a Mechanic Certification Program and TennaCAM 2.0.

Where the vendor descriptions differ

  • Hardware (vendor pages): T3 lists asset trackers (real-time GPS, engine mileage and utilization, geofencing and SMS alerts), a cloud-connected interlocking keypad that restricts machines to authorized operators and logs operator history, a dual-view road and driver-facing dash cam, and Bluetooth tags for tools, buckets and attachments. Tenna lists its own tracker range (TennaCANbus, TennaCAM, TennaFLEET, TennaINTEL, TennaMINI, TennaBLE and TennaQR) using GPS telematics and BLE, says it tracks owned, rented and third-party assets, and lists OEM telematics and AEMP integrations.
  • Software scope: T3's page covers fleet management, dash cams, security and theft prevention with after-hours alerts, compliance reporting for DOT and OSHA needs, maintenance tools and utilization data, with sections for construction fleets, commercial builders, civil contractors, general contractors and utilities. Tenna's menu lists asset tracking, sites and geofences, utilization, analytics, preventive maintenance, work orders, parts, mechanic time cards, cost codes, custom inspections, DVIR, ELD and IFTA compliance, driver and operations scorecards, scheduling and dispatch, Asset Financials (equipment job costing and billing from telematics) and Virtual Superintendent with load tracking.
  • Where the AI sits: the T3 page we read does not describe AI features. Tenna says its dash cams for road vehicles and heavy equipment use AI to flag hazards inside and outside the vehicle, with 360-degree hazard detection on its heavy equipment cameras, and that Virtual Superintendent's load tracking runs machine-learning models on telematics data to count loads (vendor descriptions).
  • Rental tie-in: T3 is presented as the system behind EquipmentShare's own rental fleet, and the page sits inside EquipmentShare's rental site. Tenna is not a rental company; it says it was built by contractors and assigns a dedicated account manager for rollout and support.
  • Pricing (checked Oct 24, 2026): neither publishes prices. T3 routes to Contact Us. Tenna's pricing page is a custom pricing request; it says TennaCORE covers standard tracking features, data and hardware are priced on asset count, Maintenance, Safety & Compliance and Integrations are optional premium add-ons, and implementation (project plan, onsite tracker installation and verification, training) is priced on asset count, installation and training locations, duration and features.
  • Not used here: T3's Yates Construction efficiency quote, Tenna's customer counts (its homepage gives both 800+ and over 750) and its customer savings figures and quotes. Neither tool has been tested by Means & Methods Lab.

Questions to ask in your review

  • What each costs for your asset count and hardware mix
  • Whether T3 is sold on its own to contractors who don't rent from EquipmentShare (the page routes to sales)
  • How each fits a fleet that already reports through OEM telematics
  • What did you use it for, on what kind of work and project size?
  • How long did setup and training take, and who on your team did it?
  • What does it cost you in practice, compared with what the sales call said?
