Versatile vs Voyage Control
Two ways to account for tower crane time, by logging every pick with a hook sensor or by booking lifts in a logistics platform. Versatile hangs a sensor device under the hook that records every pick passively and turns it into pace, sequence, delay and utilization reports for steel erectors and GCs; Voyage Control's Cranetime module books lifts against the crane as a shared resource, inside a wider delivery, gate and hoist logistics platform. Vendor pages re-read Oct 18, 2026; desk research, not tested, no winner.
In short: Versatile (Crane intelligence; no public prices (quote / sales)) vs Voyage Control (Delivery & logistics management; no public prices (quote / sales)). Facts last checked Oct 18, 2026. No winner declared; not tested.

| Sheet row | Versatile | Voyage Control |
|---|---|---|
| Category | Crane intelligence | Delivery & logistics management |
| AI role (our label) | AI-first | Not AI-first |
| What it does | AI-powered crane intelligence that captures picks and utilization data passively from the crane, without changing crew workflow. Its Control Center shows picks, sequence, pace, progress, delays and crane utilization. Quoted customers include steel erectors and Turner Construction; Turner's quote describes using it to avoid overtime and smooth crane-utilization peaks and valleys (vendor-published customer quote, not verified). Re-read Oct 16, 2026: unchanged positioning, "built for steel erectors". Re-read Oct 18, 2026: the solutions page describes a multi-sensor device under the hook, built with Crosby rigging hardware and described as a fully certified below-the-hook lifting accessory, that measures each pick cycle on any crane type, make or ownership; reports include hook time allocation, outlier reports, operational records with photos and timestamps, alerts such as no-fly zone infractions, and daily digests. The FAQ says it is ISO 27001 certified, connects over its own cellular link, and needs at least 2-3 weeks from contract to go-live (vendor statements). | Delivery booking and logistics management for construction sites, events venues, facilities and ports, including crane scheduling. It offers pre-booked delivery slots for gates and loading bays with automated confirmations and conflict detection, live visibility of inbound vehicles, crane scheduling and material inventory for construction, supply chain analytics (material throughput, supplier performance, audit-ready reports), and a developer API for ERP, procurement and project management tools. Modules listed include Construction Freight, Hoyst and Cranetime. Vendor states Cyber Essentials and ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification and a SOC 2 Type 1 attestation (vendor claims). The homepage we read Oct 17, 2026 does not describe AI. Re-read Oct 18, 2026: the Cranetime page describes real-time crane planning, lift scheduling and utilisation reporting for single and multi-crane projects, instant availability search for crane service requests, spot and future scheduling on one display, day-to-day reconfiguration of loading and unloading jobs, and reports on the bottlenecks and delays using crane hours; it calls Cranetime a patented crane management application and does not describe AI (vendor statements). |
| Who it's for | Steel erectors and general contractors running tower and mobile cranes. | Large sites with heavy delivery volumes. |
| Pricing (as publicly stated) | No public dollar prices (checked Oct 18, 2026): /pricing returns a not-found page. The FAQ says pricing comes in tiers for project and enterprise needs, with a nominal upfront cost and a monthly service fee for the duration of the contract. The call to action is "Request a demo". Confirm current pricing with the vendor. | No public prices found (checked Oct 16, 2026): the vendor site has no pricing or plans link in its navigation or footer, and /pricing and /plans return a not-found page. The site's calls to action are "Get a demo". Confirm current pricing with the vendor. Re-checked Oct 18, 2026: the homepage and Cranetime page show no prices; the calls to action are "Book a demo" and a 20-minute walkthrough. |

Where the vendor descriptions differ
- How the data is captured (vendor wording): Versatile is hardware plus software, a multi-sensor under-the-hook device built with Crosby rigging hardware and described as a fully certified below-the-hook lifting accessory matched to the hook capacity, which measures data points within each pick cycle without crews entering anything. Voyage Control's Cranetime is software: crane service requests and lifts are booked as slots against the crane, with spot and future scheduling on one display and day-to-day reconfiguration of loading and unloading jobs.
- What each reports: Versatile lists pick, sequence, pace, progress and delay views in its Control Center, crane hook time allocation, outlier reports, operational records with photos and timestamps, automatic alerts (for example a no-fly zone infraction) and daily digest reports. Cranetime lists utilisation reporting, reports on the bottlenecks and delays using crane hours, and a record of what was booked, what happened and where the time went.
- Scope: Versatile covers cranes only and says it is crane-type, make and ownership agnostic, on static and mobile cranes. Cranetime is one module of a platform that also covers procurement tracking, international shipments (Construction Freight), delivery slots at gates and loading bays, hoists (Hoyst) and material tracking, for construction sites, venues, mixed-use buildings and cruise terminals.
- Who each names: Versatile says it is built for steel erectors, quotes steel erectors and a Turner Construction superintendent, and its FAQ lists cast-in-place, precast, steel, mass timber and some non-construction projects. Cranetime names primary contractors, site coordinators, crane operators and crane owners on single and multi-crane projects.
- How each describes AI: Versatile calls itself AI-powered crane intelligence and mentions AI-powered progress reporting using 4D BIM; its team uploads your site plans, models and schedules before go-live. The Voyage Control homepage and Cranetime page we read do not describe AI; they call Cranetime a patented crane management application (vendor claim).
- Setup, security and pricing: Versatile's FAQ says at least 2-3 weeks from contract to go-live, a certified rigger puts the device on the hook in seconds, it connects over its own cellular link, and pricing is tiered for project or enterprise needs with a nominal upfront cost plus a monthly service fee, with no dollar amounts (/pricing returns a not-found page, checked Oct 18, 2026). Voyage Control says most sites are live within days once it configures your site map and resources, and shows no prices. Both state ISO/IEC 27001 certification; Voyage Control also lists SOC 2 Type 1 and Cyber Essentials (vendor claims). Not used here: either vendor's customer savings, hours and utilization figures.

What we can't tell you yet
Which tool is better for your work. That needs testing on the same package with a verified answer key. Planned measures for this comparison:
- Whether the two can run together on one site (lifts booked in Cranetime, picks measured by Versatile) and whether either imports the other's data
- Versatile's upfront and monthly cost per crane, and what Cranetime costs on its own versus the full platform
- How Cranetime records what actually happened on a lift (operator entry or a device), and how Versatile splits hook time between trades sharing one crane
