| What it does | Fleet and equipment telematics vendor tracking construction equipment, from yellow iron to pickup trucks, with Video AI driver monitoring. Its construction page covers: locate equipment across jobsites, engine hours and fuel, geofencing against unauthorized use or theft, idle equipment that could move to another job, preventive maintenance alerts and logs, cost-of-ownership and rent-vs-buy reporting, and monitoring of payloads, cycle times and daily production targets. Platforms named are TN360 and DIRECTOR. Video telematics is integrated into TN360, and the page says "Video AI monitors driving behavior including speeding, distracted driving and tailgating", with scorecards, coaching apps and video access for claims. Also lists aggregate mining, ready-mix concrete, asphalt/paving and construction trades. A Sherwood Construction case study says GPS tracking led police to a stolen loader backhoe and skid steer that would have cost over $160,000 to replace (vendor case study, not verified). Re-checked Oct 19, 2026: the construction page is unchanged in substance (TN360 and DIRECTOR, equipment utilization, maintenance alerts, cost-of-ownership reporting, Video AI for driver behavior, the Sherwood case study). The homepage also describes its video telematics as using AI to simplify risk management, and promotes an Energy Hub for fuel and charging data and a vendor research report on idle equipment (vendor claims, not verified). The AI described is still in driver video, so the tag stays. | Caterpillar's cloud fleet management app for mixed-OEM fleets, covering location, hours, fuel, utilization, machine health and service. It offers location, operating hours, idle time, fuel and utilization dashboards; owned, rented or leased assets; geofences, groups and projects; utilization targets; a health view of fault codes, Cat S·O·S fluid analysis and Cat Inspect inspection reports; service intervals with checklists and parts lists; parts ordering through parts.cat.com and service scheduling with a local Cat dealer; work tool attachment hours; scheduled reports in CSV, XLSX, JSON or XML. Non-Cat equipment connects through Cat Product Link devices or API feeds from other OEM/third-party telematics, and the page says it supports ISO (AEMP 2.0) standards; Cat notes data field availability varies by manufacturer. The page we read describes no AI features, so we tag it Not AI-first. Re-checked Oct 19, 2026: (read through headless Chrome; a plain request returned 403) the page is unchanged in substance. It lays out setup as three steps: consult your Cat dealer, connect assets (activate the built-in hardware on new Cat equipment, or install Product Link devices or pull API data from other OEM and third-party telematics on older and non-Cat machines), then choose a per-machine subscription. Still no AI described. |

Where the vendor descriptions differ
- Scope: Teletrac Navman's construction page spans yellow iron to pickup trucks and lists aggregate mining, ready-mix concrete, asphalt and paving and construction trades; its navigation also lists ELD, DVIR and IFTA tools for on-road vehicles. Cat VisionLink focuses on machines: location, operating hours, idle time, fuel and utilization dashboards for owned, rented or leased assets.
- Mixed fleets: VisionLink connects non-Cat equipment through Cat Product Link devices or API feeds from other OEM and third-party telematics and says it supports ISO (AEMP 2.0); Cat notes data field availability varies by manufacturer. Teletrac sells its own devices and platform through a product builder; the construction page we read does not mention AEMP.
- Maintenance and cost: both list preventive maintenance alerts and engine hours. VisionLink adds a health view (fault codes, Cat S·O·S fluid analysis, Cat Inspect reports), service intervals with checklists, parts ordering through parts.cat.com and dealer service scheduling. Teletrac adds cost-of-ownership and rent-vs-buy reporting, and monitoring of payloads, cycle times and daily production targets.
- Setup: Cat lays out three steps: consult your Cat dealer, connect assets (built-in hardware on new Cat machines, Product Link or API data for older and non-Cat machines), then choose a per-machine subscription. Teletrac routes buyers to a Get Pricing form and an interactive product builder by industry.
- AI: Teletrac says Video AI monitors speeding, distracted driving and tailgating, integrated into TN360 (tagged AI features added). The VisionLink page describes no AI (tagged Not AI-first). Neither describes AI in utilization or maintenance.
- Pricing (checked Oct 19, 2026): neither publishes prices. VisionLink is a per-machine subscription through a Cat dealer; Teletrac's /pricing returns 404 and pricing comes through its form. Neither tool has been tested by Means & Methods Lab.
