| What it does | HCSS's software-and-hardware GPS equipment tracking for heavy civil fleets, with geofences, alerts, ECU data and OEM telematics. HCSS calls it a GPS solution geared toward the heavy civil industry, with one map view of a mixed fleet, hand-drawn geofences matched to job sites with entry/exit reports, alerts (harsh driving, excessive idling, theft), and fleet data pulled from the machine ECU. HCSS OEM Link brings in manufacturer telematics (the page names John Deere, Cat, Volvo and Komatsu) into the same web portal. Hardware: plug-in units for over-the-road vehicles, wired units for yellow iron, AAA-battery satellite trackers for non-powered assets, ELD units HCSS says are ELD-compliant, and a plug-and-play dash camera "with a built-in AI processor to detect risky driving and forward collisions" (the only AI described on the page). Telematics data feeds other HCSS products: Equipment360 (maintenance: meter readings into PM cycles, fuel level, location), FuelerPlus, HCSS Dispatcher (equipment not where it is scheduled) and HeavyJob (pull GPS engine hours onto the timecard). Page figures: 4,000+ contractors, 58,000 connected assets and 4.3 million harsh driving events captured in 2024, and $150,000 saved in rentals by the average HeavyJob & Telematics user (vendor claims, not verified); customer quotes from Haines & Kibblehouse (OEM telematics, cycle-time reports for trucking on milling/paving and dirt jobs) and Park Construction are vendor-published. Re-checked Oct 19, 2026: the page is unchanged in substance (OEM Link, ELD-compliant units, the AI dash camera, GPS hours onto HeavyJob timecards, the 12-month money-back guarantee). HCSS's separate AI page lists its AI assistant across HeavyJob, HeavyBid, HCSS Safety and HCSS Plans, not Telematics, so the AI features added tag still rests on the dash camera. Re-checked Oct 21, 2026: the page still lists OEM Link (John Deere, Cat, Volvo, Komatsu), ELD-compliant plug-in and wired units, GPS hours pulled onto HeavyJob timecards and the 12-month money-back guarantee; its FAQ now says the product is being rebranded HCSS Fleet and names the AI dash camera HCSS Shield (a plug-and-play dash camera with a built-in AI processor for risky driving and forward collisions). Re-checked Oct 23, 2026: the page is unchanged in substance (mixed-fleet map, custom geofences and entry/exit reports, alerts for harsh driving, idling and theft, OEM Link for John Deere, Cat, Volvo and Komatsu data, ELD-compliant units, AAA-battery satellite trackers, the AI dash camera, and data sent to Dispatcher, Equipment360, HeavyJob and FuelerPlus). Re-read Oct 23, 2026 for a compare: the FAQ says it tracks GPS location, engine hours, odometer, idle vs working time, fuel burn, DEF levels and CAN bus fault codes, that the AI dash camera flags harsh braking, rapid acceleration, cell phone use, tailgating and forward collision risk, and that OEM Link pulls data from over 30 OEMs and third parties. Re-checked Oct 25, 2026: the page is unchanged in substance (mixed-fleet map, custom geofences, alerts, OEM Link, ELD-compliant units, AAA-battery satellite trackers, the AI dash camera, data sent to Dispatcher, Equipment360, HeavyJob and FuelerPlus; the FAQ still describes the HCSS Fleet Telematics rebrand and the HCSS Shield dashcam). The footer links a page titled Hey AI, Learn About Us aimed at AI assistants; it was not used as a source. Contractor, asset, event and savings figures are not used. | Equipment management software that puts equipment, vehicles, tools, attachments, and materials in one system for tracking, maintenance and dispatch. Features listed: GPS tracking and geofences, utilization, preventive maintenance and work orders, dispatching, asset financials, AI dash cams with driver and operations scorecards, DVIR/ELD/IFTA compliance, and a Virtual Superintendent with automated load counts. Sells its own trackers (TennaCANbus, TennaCAM, TennaFLEET, and more) and integrates with OEM telematics and accounting/ERP. Vendor says 750+ construction businesses use it (vendor claim). Tenna announced Virtual Superintendent on Oct 6, 2026; its first module, Load Tracking, runs machine-learning models on 1 Hz telematics data to recognize loading, queuing, and dumping and to count haul cycles and quantities by job, with no added hardware (vendor description). Re-read Oct 18, 2026: its custom inspections page lists a template builder by asset category, role or compliance need (or an inspection library), pass/fail logic, conditionally required fields, photos and e-signatures, QR-code inspections that work offline, recurring or usage-based schedules, automatic repair requests in Tenna's maintenance module for failed items, inspections attached to dispatch drop-offs, and results that feed its Operations and Safety Scorecard. Re-checked Oct 20, 2026: unchanged in substance; the homepage also announces equipment job costing and billing powered by telematics as a new product, and the menu lists parts, mechanic time cards, cost codes and a TennaQR tracker. The separate equipment-management pricing URL now redirects to the same custom pricing form. Re-checked Oct 22, 2026: unchanged in substance; the homepage now also announces Load Tracking (automated load counts in Virtual Superintendent) alongside Asset Financials (equipment job costing and billing powered by telematics), says it is trusted by 750+ construction businesses (vendor claim) and promotes TennaU Live 2026 registration. Re-checked Oct 23, 2026: the homepage now says it is trusted by 800+ construction businesses (vendor claim; earlier notes said 750+), and the menu lists a Competitor Comparison page, a Mechanic Certification Program and TennaCAM 2.0. Re-checked Oct 24, 2026: homepage unchanged in substance (trusted by 800+ construction businesses, vendor claim; Load Tracking and Asset Financials as new products; TennaU Live 2026). Its news list adds a post saying its Dispatch Command Center was named to Equipment Today's 2026 Contractors' Top 50 New Products list (Oct 13, 2026; not reviewed). Customer savings figures and quotes are vendor content and are not used. |
| Who it's for | Heavy civil contractors' equipment, shop and safety managers, especially shops already on HeavyJob, Equipment360 or Dispatcher. | Contractors' field, shop, and office teams managing mixed fleets. |

Earlier note (Oct 15, 2026): Not publicly listed (custom pricing by request). Pricing page says data and hardware pricing is based on asset count, with Premium Products such as Maintenance and Safety & Compliance as optional add-ons to the TennaCORE platform. Re-checked Oct 22, 2026: unchanged (the same four-step custom pricing form with the same six product choices; no prices). Re-checked Oct 23, 2026: unchanged (four-step quote form covering products, asset types, quantity and contact; TennaCORE plus premium add-ons, data and hardware priced on asset count; no prices). Where the vendor descriptions differ
- Starting point: HCSS calls HCSS Telematics a GPS solution geared toward the heavy civil industry, and its FAQ says the product is being renamed HCSS Fleet Telematics to cover hardware, an AI dashcam (HCSS Shield) and maintenance workflows. Tenna describes equipment management software that puts equipment, vehicles, tools, attachments and materials in one system for the field, shop and office.
- Hardware: HCSS lists plug-in units for over-the-road vehicles, wired units for yellow iron, AAA-battery satellite trackers for non-powered assets, units it says are ELD-compliant, and a plug-and-play dash camera. Tenna sells its own tracker line: TennaCANbus, TennaCAM 2.0 for heavy equipment and fleet, TennaFLEET, TennaINTEL, TennaMINI, TennaBLE and TennaQR.
- OEM data: HCSS OEM Link names John Deere, Cat, Volvo and Komatsu, and the FAQ says it pulls data from over 30 OEMs and third parties into the same map. Tenna lists OEM telematics and AEMP integrations alongside accounting/ERP and construction software integrations.
- Where the data goes: HCSS sends telematics data to its own products: Equipment360 for preventive maintenance, HeavyJob (GPS engine hours pulled onto timecards), HCSS Dispatcher and FuelerPlus. Tenna keeps maintenance (preventive maintenance, work orders, parts, mechanic time cards), inspections, scheduling and dispatch, and asset financials inside its own platform.
- AI layer: on HCSS's page the AI is in the dash camera, which per the FAQ flags harsh braking, rapid acceleration, cell phone use, tailgating and forward collision risk. Tenna lists an AI dash cam with driver and operations scorecards, plus Virtual Superintendent, whose Load Tracking module, per Tenna, counts haul cycles from telematics data with no added hardware. Vendor descriptions, not tested.
- Pricing shape: neither publishes prices. HCSS offers Get pricing and demo forms and a custom-quote page, and mentions a 12-month money-back guarantee. Tenna's pricing page is a custom-pricing form (products, asset types, quantities); it says data and hardware pricing for TennaCORE and its premium add-ons is based on asset count, and implementation pricing depends on asset count, install and training locations, duration and features.
- Not used here: contractor counts, connected-asset and harsh-event counts, rental-savings figures, customer savings stories and quotes on either vendor's site.
