BIM coordination, clash detection and model checking in 2026: which tools use AI and which are rule-based automation
Most BIM coordination and clash detection software in 2026 is rule-based automation, not AI: Autodesk's Navisworks and Model Coordination, Revizto, Solibri and BIMcollab detect, group and track clashes with rules and tolerances your coordinators set. Among them only Solibri lists a built-in AI assistant (Beta, Premium tier), Revizto offers an MCP server so your own AI can query its project data, and the AI aimed at the clash itself sits at the edges, with Augmenta generating coordinated electrical models before coordination and VAVETEK AI's BAMROC proposing moves and bends after detection. We read vendor pages on Oct 18, 2026 for six coordination and model-checking products and sorted them by where the AI (if any) sits. Desk research, not tested, no winner; vendor statements are labeled as vendor claims.

Three jobs that get called clash detection
This is our framing, not a vendor claim. Coordination software does three different jobs: detection (finding hard clashes, clearance or soft clashes, duplicates and missing elements in a federated model), management (grouping hundreds of raw clashes into issues, assigning them to a trade, tracking them through model versions and closing them), and resolution (actually changing the model so the clash goes away). Solibri's own FAQ draws a similar line: clash detection is one part of BIM coordination, which also covers federated model review, issue management and model validation.
In this set, detection and management are mature, rule-driven features in Navisworks and Model Coordination, Revizto, Solibri and BIMcollab. Resolution is still mostly a person in Revit; VAVETEK AI's BAMROC is the one product here that sells AI-driven resolution, and Augmenta's pitch is to generate a coordinated model so fewer clashes reach coordination at all.
Detection and grouping: rules, not models
Autodesk's Model Management page (Autodesk says Autodesk Construction Cloud is now part of Autodesk Forma) describes uploading multi-discipline models and automatically detecting clashes, automatic grouping, dynamic clash tolerance filters, and turning clashes into assigned issues tracked across Navisworks, Revit and Forma. Navisworks Manage covers clash resolution, model aggregation, 4D/5D simulation and 3D review. Its FAQ says the BIM Collaborate subscription is no longer sold; Model Coordination now comes through the Model Management bundle, Navisworks Manage or BIM Collaborate Pro.
Revizto's Collaborative Clash Automation page lists scheduled clash tests, model imports and issue syncs that run overnight or from a central machine; checks for intersecting objects, clearance issues, duplicates and required or missing elements; automatic grouping that consolidates related clashes into one issue; and automatic issue creation from clash groups using conditional templates that assign trades, priorities and tags. Its FAQ contrasts this with Navisworks needing separate applications for workflow management (vendor claim). Release 5.18 adds Draft Mode for keeping new markups and issues as drafts until they are ready.
Solibri says its clash detection is rule-based rather than only geometry intersection: you define which disciplines and elements to compare, clearance zones and tolerances, acceptable intersections to exclude, and how to group clashes by system, location or responsibility, and checks can rerun automatically on new model versions. Clash detection is listed in its Essential, Advanced, Premium and Security+ tiers, with clash matrix control from Advanced up.
BIMcollab's Zoom model checker federates models and runs clash rules; its Smart Issues remember the clashes and objects they represent, check whether those clashes are solved in a new model version without rerunning the rules, and recognize clashes already reported even when other coordinators run different clash rules, which the vendor says lets large teams split the work without duplicate issues. It is built on the IFC, BCF and IDS open standards.
Model checking: is the data right, not just the geometry
Clash-free is not the same as correct. Solibri and BIMcollab both check model information against project requirements, including buildingSMART's IDS (Information Delivery Specification) format: Solibri lists structured data validation and IDS workflows from its Advanced tier, and BIMcollab lets you define IDS requirements in the cloud and check models against them in Zoom. Solibri's Premium tier adds point cloud checking against the model; its Security+ tier runs fully offline and air-gapped with no telemetry, for government and defence work.
Our reading for heavy civil and infrastructure: if an owner hands you IFC models with an information requirement, an IDS check is closer to the contract question than a clash count. Ask which IFC versions and which IDS rules each tool supports on your actual models.
Where the AI actually is
Solibri lists an AI-powered Assistant in Beta, only in Solibri Premium, in desktop release 26.6.0. It takes natural-language questions about setting up a rule, queries the open model and current checking results, and helps work through issues. Solibri says it only reaches the open model and session with explicit permission, does not access external data or browse the internet, and does not change how the core checking engine works. That makes it a navigation and configuration helper, not an AI that finds clashes.
Revizto's MCP Server page describes connecting Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot or a firm's private LLM to live Revizto project data to ask questions in plain English, flag missing or non-compliant properties, and summarize or triage open issues by trade or priority, with inference running on the customer's own infrastructure (vendor wording). The AI is yours, not Revizto's, which is why we still tag Revizto Not AI-first.
VAVETEK AI's BAMROC (BIM Automatic Modular Resolver of Clashes) takes detected MEP vs MEP and MEP vs structure clashes and applies AI-driven movement and bend strategies inside Revit-based workflows, keeping configured clearances and connectivity, with BIM professionals reviewing and validating the changes (vendor description). It works with BIM 360/ACC cloud models and Revit files, and its separate KLASH BIM plugin detects MEP and structure clashes and passes them to BAMROC. The BAMROC page lists limitations: industrial plants and infrastructure, special-geometry buildings, LOD400+ fabrication models, gravity pipes vs structure, and equipment vs MEP clashes. Its testimonials cite resolution rates; we did not use them.
Augmenta works before coordination: its homepage says AI-driven routing generates fully coordinated, clash-free electrical models in hours instead of weeks, routing conduit on data centers, hospitals and schools, with mechanical and plumbing named as next (vendor claims). Argyle, covered in our field QA roundup, works after coordination, overlaying the model on site in AR to verify installs; its pages do not describe AI.

BIMcollab per user per month: Basic €12.50, Advanced €18.75, Enterprise €25 billed annually (€19, €29 and €39 monthly); Zoom licenses are priced separately.
Quote-only or not readable as dollars: Revizto (per-user, per-project and enterprise licensing, all by quote), Autodesk Model Management (Bundle Offer page with Get a quote only; re-checked Oct 18, 2026), VAVETEK AI and Augmenta (demo or contact only).
What to ask before a pilot
These are our suggestions, not findings. Rerun one past coordination cycle on a model set you already closed and compare the issue count, duplicates and time to a clean model. Bring your clash matrix and tolerances. Ask how issues survive a model version change and a renamed element, and how they export as BCF to the tools your trades use. For any AI feature, ask what it can change in the model, who approves the change, and what the audit trail records.
Takeaways
- Clash detection, grouping and issue tracking in Navisworks and Model Coordination, Revizto, Solibri and BIMcollab are rule-based automation; none of the four describes AI that finds clashes.
- Solibri's AI-powered Assistant is Beta and Premium-only (desktop 26.6.0), and helps with rules, results and issues inside a session.
- Revizto's MCP Server lets a firm's own AI (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot or a private LLM) query live project data.
- AI aimed at the clash itself sits at the edges: Augmenta generates coordinated electrical models before coordination, and VAVETEK AI's BAMROC proposes MEP moves and bends after detection.
- Solibri and BIMcollab publish prices; Revizto, VAVETEK AI and Augmenta do not.
