Drawboard vs BIMcollab

Two design-review and issue-tracking products that come at coordination from different sides. Drawboard Projects is PDF-first: teams mark up drawing sets in real time, pin issues and tasks to sheets, and sync with Revit, Procore and Autodesk Forma. BIMcollab is model-first: an open-BIM coordination hub built on IFC and BCF, with a streaming IFC viewer, BCF issue management with plug-ins for BIM tools, and the Zoom model checker sold separately. Both publish per-user prices and neither describes AI features on the pages read. Partly like-for-like: both track design issues across a project team, but one centres on 2D sheets and the other on federated models. Vendor pages read Nov 1, 2026; desk research from vendor sites, no winner.

What it doesPDF markup and collaboration software: drawing markup, design reviews and issue tracking on Windows, iPad/iPhone, macOS, Android and web. The homepage promotes Drawboard Projects x Autodesk Forma and says Projects syncs with Revit, Procore and Forma and that guests are free; the Revit Add-in and Forma integration each offer a 30-day trial. The free Drawboard PDF tier lists 10 documents with a 40 MB limit per document, and the pricing page lists enterprise single sign-on (SSO).Open-standards BIM coordination platform with cloud issue management, a streaming IFC WebViewer and the BIMcollab Zoom model checker, built on buildingSMART's IFC, BCF and IDS standards. Zoom federates discipline models, checks object properties against project requirements including IDS, and runs clash detection; its Smart Issues link each issue to the clashes and objects it represents, check whether linked clashes are solved in a new model version without rerunning the rules, can be updated and closed in one command, and recognize clashes already reported even when other coordinators run their own clash rules, which the vendor says prevents duplicate reports on large teams. The cloud hub adds BCF issue management with plug-ins for BIM tools, ISO 19650 document statuses, customizable approval workflows, Autodesk Forge and Trimble Connect viewer integrations and SSO on higher plans; the vendor says data is hosted in the Netherlands. The pages we read describe automation and 'intelligent' issue tracking but do not describe AI features. User counts and customer quotes are not used.

Where the vendor descriptions differ

  • Where review happens (vendor pages): Drawboard says teams mark up drawings, run design reviews and track issues in real time across Windows, iPad and iPhone, macOS, Android and web, with Issues and Tasks pinned to sections of drawings, threaded comments and an activity history. BIMcollab's hub offers a streaming WebViewer for IFC models, Revit model support, federated models and BCF-based issue management, and its plans table also lists PDF 2D issues and annotations on every plan.
  • Issues and exports: Drawboard says filtered Tasks can be exported to CSV, drawings can be exported with or without annotations, and review statuses run from Needs Review to Approved. BIMcollab lists export of issues as BCF, PDF, CSV or XLS, with confidential issues, issue pins, custom issue fields and saved filters on its Advanced and Enterprise plans.
  • Integrations: Drawboard lists Procore drawing sync, Aconex, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, a Revit add-in that publishes sheets from Revit and an Autodesk Forma integration (the Revit add-in is listed with a 30-day trial). BIMcollab lists BCF managers and add-ons for BIM tools, an API, a Power BI connector, Autodesk Forma Document Sync on Advanced and Enterprise, and two-factor authentication and SSO on every plan; its Zoom model checker is sold under separate Zoom licenses.
  • AI: neither vendor describes AI features on the pages read; both are listed here as Not AI-first.
  • Pricing (checked Nov 1, 2026): Drawboard Projects Team $29 per user per month or $270 per user per year (up to 25 users), Growth $39 per user per month or $370 per user per year (up to 150 users), Enterprise custom from 20 users. • Whether your design reviews run on 2D PDF sheets or on federated IFC and Revit models
  • How each handles issues raised by people outside your company, given each vendor's guest rules
  • Total cost for your team once BIMcollab Zoom licenses or Drawboard Enterprise terms are added, and in which currency you are billed
  • What did you use it for, on what kind of work and project size?
  • How long did setup and training take, and who on your team did it?
  • What does it cost you in practice, compared with what the sales call said?
