Skydio vs Propeller

A drone maker and a drone survey platform that can sit in the same workflow. Skydio builds autonomous drones (X10, with Dock for X10 for scheduled or on-demand remote flights) plus fleet software, and its construction page says its aerial data feeds photogrammetry platforms including Propeller. Propeller is a cloud map platform that turns drone, GNSS and scanner data into volumes, grades and progress, with AeroPoints, DirtMate and AI-assisted Propeller CAD; its supported-drones list includes the Skydio X10. Neither publishes prices. Desk research from vendor pages read Oct 29, 2026; not tested, no winner.

Agency counts, time and cost claims and customer quotes are not used.Cloud, map-based site platform that combines drone, GNSS rover, total station and scanner data to measure volumes, grades and daily production. It measures volumes, distances, heights, and grades from that surface data, overlays CAD designs, tracks daily production, and organizes site documents. Products: Propeller (core hub), survey processing (photogrammetry and lidar), DirtMate (GNSS receiver for machine telematics), and AeroPoints (smart ground control points). Integrations listed include Trimble Connect, Procore, Autodesk BIM 360/Build, Aconex, OneDrive, and HCSS. Re-checked Oct 19, 2026: the homepage now lists Propeller CAD, which the vendor calls AI-powered earthworks design: its product page says you describe an earthwork design in plain language (haul roads and ramps, balanced pads, ponds, trenches) and it is generated on the site's real drone survey surface, with an AI that reasons over the elevation data, for early-stage concepting with DXF and TTM export for the engineering team's final deliverables. Because the core map-and-measure platform predates this, we now tag Propeller as AI features added to an established product (previously Not AI-first, when the homepage did not describe AI). The homepage also announces handheld scanning and RTK updates. Re-checked Oct 20, 2026: homepage and Propeller CAD page unchanged in substance (plain-language earthwork design on the site's real survey surface for haul roads and ramps, balanced pads, ponds and trenches, with DXF and TTM export, for early-stage concepting); the menus also list Propeller PPK and a data centers industry page. Re-checked Oct 22, 2026: homepage and Propeller CAD page unchanged in substance (AI-powered earthworks design on the real survey terrain; the homepage still announces Propeller CAD, handheld scanning and RTK; menus list Propeller PPK and a data centers page). Re-checked Oct 23, 2026: homepage unchanged in substance (concept designs with Propeller CAD, stake out with DirtMate RTK; PPK workflows; data centers page). Re-checked Oct 24, 2026: homepage, Propeller CAD and DirtMate pages unchanged in substance. Propeller CAD generates haul roads, ramps, balanced pads, trenches and ponds from plain-language prompts on the drone survey surface, can take attached standards and specs as context, and exports DXF and TTM. DirtMate GNSS receivers work as machine units, rover, base station or position monitor, with in-cab guidance for rough grading flat surfaces, automatic load and dump counts, and new surfaces every 30 minutes where machines are working (vendor descriptions). The CAD page's design-time figure is a beta customer's account and not used. Re-checked Oct 25, 2026: homepage unchanged in substance (map-based survey platform; Propeller CAD; DirtMate; AeroPoints with PPK, photogrammetry and LiDAR processing; data centers industry page). Re-checked Oct 26, 2026: homepage unchanged in substance (map-based survey platform; Propeller CAD for AI-powered earthworks design on survey terrain; DirtMate; AeroPoints; PPK, photogrammetry and LiDAR processing; data centers industry page). Re-checked Oct 27, 2026 (read for a compare): homepage unchanged in substance (headline: your 3D drone mapping software now does CAD; map-based survey platform; Propeller CAD; DirtMate; AeroPoints; survey processing; software integrations incl. Where the vendor descriptions differ

  • Not like-for-like and potentially complementary: Skydio is the aircraft, dock and flight autonomy; Propeller is where survey data is processed and measured. Skydio's construction page names Propeller, DroneDeploy and Pix4D as photogrammetry platforms its aerial data can go into, and Propeller's hardware page lists the Skydio X10 among tested drones.
  • Capture: Skydio describes the X10 with visual and radiometric thermal sensors and AI autonomy for flying around cranes, steel, scaffolding and GPS-challenged structures, and Dock for X10 running scheduled or on-demand missions without an onsite pilot (with appropriate FAA approvals). Propeller says it works with data from any drone and lists tested models from Anzu, Autel, DJI, Freefly, Quantum, Skydio and others.
  • Accuracy: Propeller's supported-drones table lists the Skydio X10 (VT300-L payload) at 3-7 cm expected accuracy under ideal conditions, with a minimum of 3 AeroPoints as PPK base and ground control and a Strict QA level. Skydio's construction page talks about keeping 2D and 3D deliverables aligned with CAD and BIM but gives no survey accuracy figure.
  • What you get: Skydio describes live site views, repeatable capture for safety audits and punch lists, and Ops Center to manage a drone fleet across sites. Propeller describes volumes and inventory, progress and productivity tracking, as-built versus design checks, PPK workflows, photogrammetry and LiDAR processing, DirtMate machine guidance and telematics, and integrations including Trimble Connect, Procore and HCSS.
  • AI: Skydio is tagged AI-first (autonomy is the product). Propeller is tagged AI features added to an established product, for Propeller CAD, which generates early-stage earthwork designs from plain-language prompts on the survey surface with DXF and TTM export.
  • Pricing (checked Oct 29, 2026): neither publishes prices. Skydio's /pricing returns not found and its Resources menu lists Purchasing, Resellers and Contracts. Propeller has no pricing page and offers a 14-day free trial and Request a demo. See each tool page for detail.
  • Not used here: Skydio's takeoff-time, agency and customer figures, and Propeller's customer stories and design-time claims (vendor material). Neither tool has been tested by Means & Methods Lab.
