SmartBarrel vs MobiClocks
Two face-verification time clocks for construction crews. Similar job, different packaging: SmartBarrel pairs its own rugged TimeClock hardware with a kiosk app and describes its verification as AI; MobiClocks sells app-based kiosks and personal apps at a published per-user price. Vendor-published facts only; desk research, not tested, no winner.
In short: SmartBarrel (Biometric time tracking; no public prices (quote / sales)) vs MobiClocks (Face-recognition time & attendance; vendor publishes prices). Facts last checked Oct 17, 2026. No winner declared; not tested.

| Category | Biometric time tracking | Face-recognition time & attendance |
| AI role (our label) | AI features added to established product | Not AI-first |
| What it does | Biometric time tracking for construction: the rugged TimeClock 4.0 (portable, weatherproof, magnetic, solar or battery powered, LTE connected) and a mobile/kiosk app that turns a phone or tablet into a shared check-in station, both using AI facial verification (the vendor says a photo is captured at each check-in and compared with earlier photos, no photo upload is needed to onboard, and it works with hard hats and safety glasses), plus geofencing. Also lists timesheets with rounding, breaks and overtime, cost codes and production quantities, earned vs burned hours, daily logs, per diem and expense tracking, PPE detection, and integrations with Procore, CMiC, Viewpoint Vista and Spectrum, Foundation, Sage, QuickBooks, ComputerEase, Plexxis, Power BI and an API (read Oct 17, 2026). Vendor claims 100% accuracy (vendor claim, not verified). | Workforce management with face-recognition time clocks to prevent buddy punching and streamline payroll. The pricing page (read Oct 17, 2026) lists on all plans: facial recognition clock in/out, geofencing and optional GPS breadcrumbing (administrators can turn it on or off), offline punches for remote sites, unlimited free kiosk and personal apps, cost coding, production tracking, subcontractor time tracking, certification tracking, Davis-Bacon certified payroll management, per-diem calculations, advanced union overtime policies, suspicious activity flagging and a GC reporting dashboard (MobiLink). Apps support English, Spanish and French. The pages we read do not describe the face matching as AI, so we keep the Not AI-first tag. |
| Who it's for | Trade contractors, including union and temp labor. | Construction companies with large labor forces. |
| Pricing (as publicly stated) | No public prices found (checked Oct 16, 2026): the vendor site has no pricing or plans link in its navigation or footer, and /pricing and /plans return a not-found page. The site's calls to action are "Contact us", "Get a demo". Confirm current pricing with the vendor. | Vendor-listed pricing (pricing page, checked Oct 16, 2026; unchanged Oct 17, 2026): Core $9 per user/month, described as for companies up to 500 people; Enterprise via sales for 500+ employees, minimum 50 users. 30-day free trial; the page notes direct payroll integrations may cost extra. What we can't tell you yet
Which tool is better for your work. That needs testing on the same package with a verified answer key. Planned measures for this comparison:
- False rejects and false matches at the clock in real jobsite conditions (PPE, low light, rain)
- Time from clock-in to a payroll-ready, cost-coded timesheet
- How face images and location data are stored, retained and deleted
