Tread vs Pronto
Two kinds of haul technology for the same aggregate and quarry world. Tread is dispatch, e-ticketing and billing software for bulk material hauling, used by producers, haulers and heavy civil contractors to run company and third-party dump trucks. Pronto sells an off-road autonomous haulage system (AHS) that retrofits haul trucks at mines and quarries. Not like-for-like (our reading): Tread manages loads moving on public roads; Pronto drives the trucks inside a site. Vendor pages read Oct 21, 2026; desk research, not tested, no winner.
In short: Tread (Bulk material hauling dispatch & e-tickets; vendor publishes prices) vs Pronto (Autonomous haulage; no public prices (quote / sales)). Facts last checked Oct 21, 2026. No winner declared; not tested.

| Category | Bulk material hauling dispatch & e-tickets | Autonomous haulage |
| AI role (our label) | AI features added to established product | AI-first |
| What it does | Dump truck dispatch software for bulk materials, from quotes and dispatch to AI ticket capture, invoicing and hauler settlements. Features listed: quotes from saved rates, daily dispatch orders, assignment of company and third-party trucks, a live map with ETAs, digital and scale ticket capture where AI reads photographed or texted paper tickets and checks quantity, date and ticket number against the job (flagging possible duplicates), then customer invoicing and driver/hauler settlements. Pricing page lists direct scale-ticket integrations with WEM, Astec and Command Alkon APEX, billing data to QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop, telematics connections including Motive and Samsara (FAQ re-read Oct 17, 2026), and webhooks for orders, jobs, loads and tickets. Navigation (Oct 17, 2026) also lists AI Approvals & Cost Coding and AI agents for construction pages. Vendor says 10,000+ drivers run on Tread daily and that AI reads paper tickets at 95%+ (vendor claims, not verified). The old tread.io domain redirects to tread.ai. Re-checked Oct 19, 2026: features, integrations and figures unchanged; the ticket check is now named AI Load Review, and a Workflows menu adds Field Intelligence (foremen request trucks, track deliveries and approve work from the field), moving geofences, excess-soil tracking, mileage by state and driver-document compliance. Re-checked Oct 20, 2026: features, integrations and figures unchanged; the homepage also links Tread's own comparison pages against Iron Sheepdog, TRUX, TruckIT, Toro TMS, FleetWatcher and BusyBusy and an ROI calculator whose results it labels illustrative estimates (not used here). Re-checked Oct 21, 2026: features, integrations and figures unchanged; the homepage still names AI Load Review and the Field Intelligence, moving geofences, excess soils, mileage-by-state and compliance workflows, and its cost estimator is still labelled an illustrative estimate (not used). | Off-road autonomous haulage system (AHS) for mines, quarries, and other rugged industrial sites. Vendor says its software learns a haul route after an operator drives it manually once, and operators then dispatch trucks to saved routes from a smartphone app. It describes a camera- and GNSS-based hardware stack (instead of radar and lidar), machine-learning object detection meant to reduce false positives, a retrofit drive-by-wire kit, and ADAS, collision-avoidance, or L4 autonomy depending on site maturity; it says the system is OEM, vehicle, and application agnostic (vendor claims). Pronto's newsroom lists its acquisition of SafeAI (July 15, 2025), and safeai.ai now redirects to pronto.ai. The newsroom also says Atoms, the physical AI company founded by Travis Kalanick, completed its acquisition of Pronto on April 6, 2026, and that Pronto now anchors Atoms Mining; it also lists a strategic partnership with Hitachi Construction Machinery (July 15, 2026) and an expansion to two more Heidelberg Materials sites (April 30, 2026) (company statements). Re-read Oct 18, 2026: the solution page adds programmable site rules of the road, all-stop buttons in manually operated equipment, redundant neural networks, a smartphone app that replaces an AHS control room (access control, fleet location and performance, per-truck fuel, payload and utilization), over-the-air updates, and a subsidiary, Pollen Mobile, that builds private LTE networks for mine sites. Re-read Oct 19, 2026: the newsroom also lists AHS Editions, a tiered autonomous haulage portfolio (Feb 5, 2026), a mixed-fleet quarry milestone of two million tons hauled (Jan 15, 2026) and Komatsu Smart Quarry Autonomous, powered by Pronto, for quarry-size trucks (Aug 7, 2025) (company statements). Re-checked Oct 20, 2026: unchanged in substance; the newsroom's latest item is still the Hitachi Construction Machinery partnership (July 2026), and the solution page still describes route learning from one manual drive, smartphone dispatch, all-stop buttons in manned equipment and the Pollen Mobile LTE subsidiary. Re-checked Oct 21, 2026: the solution page is unchanged in substance (route learning from one manual drive, smartphone dispatch, camera and GNSS stack, redundant neural networks, all-stop buttons, Pollen Mobile LTE); its autonomy-level line now reads 'ADAS, L9 + CAS, or L4 autonomy' (appears to be a typo for collision avoidance; flagged), and the newsroom's latest item is still the Hitachi Construction Machinery partnership (July 2026). |
| Who it's for | Material producers (quarries, asphalt plants, mines), bulk haulers and brokers, and heavy civil, DOT and public works contractors moving aggregate, asphalt and fill. | Mine, quarry, and other off-road site operators running haul trucks. |
| Pricing (as publicly stated) | Annual subscription priced by loads and features. Tread Platform starter price for trucking companies and brokers is $1,250/month on a 1-year term billed annually ($15,000/year; $1,389/month if paid monthly) for companies delivering under 30,000 loads; the FAQ lists $3,333/month for producers and contractors on the same terms. Enterprise (30,000+ loads or multiple business units) is custom. Unlimited users and trucks; 10% off for annual payment and another 10% for a 2-year term (vendor statements; pricing page marked last updated Oct 11, 2026). (Checked Oct 15, 2026; re-read Oct 17, 2026: prices unchanged, page still marked last updated Oct 11, 2026.) Re-checked Oct 19, 2026: unchanged ($1,250 a month for trucking companies and brokers, $3,333 for producers and contractors, under 30,000 loads, 1-year term; page still marked last updated October 11, 2026). Re-checked Oct 20, 2026: unchanged ($1,250 a month for trucking companies and brokers, $3,333 for producers and contractors, under 30,000 loads, 1-year term; page still marked last updated October 11, 2026). Re-checked Oct 21, 2026: unchanged ($1,250 a month for trucking companies and brokers, $3,333 for producers and contractors, under 30,000 loads, 1-year term; page still marked last updated October 11, 2026). | No public prices found (checked Oct 16, 2026; re-checked Oct 18 and Oct 19, 2026): the vendor site has no pricing or plans link in its navigation or footer, and /pricing and /plans return a not-found page. The site's calls to action include "Contact us". Confirm current pricing with the vendor. Re-checked Oct 20, 2026: unchanged (/pricing returns a 404 page; calls to action are Contact us and sales@pronto.ai). Where the vendor descriptions differ
- What each does: Tread's homepage describes quotes from saved rates, daily dispatch orders, assigning company and third-party trucks, a live map with ETAs, ticket capture from driver photos or texts, approvals, then customer invoices and driver and hauler settlements. Pronto's solution page says its software learns a haul route after an operator drives it manually once, and operators then dispatch trucks to saved routes from a smartphone app.
- Who each is for: Tread names material producers (quarries, asphalt plants, mines), bulk haulers with fleets of 25 to 1,000 trucks and heavy civil, DOT, highway, energy and public works contractors, plus truckload carriers, owner-operators, freight brokers and drayage carriers. Pronto names mines, quarries and other rugged industrial sites, and its newsroom lists quarry deployments with Heidelberg Materials and a Komatsu Smart Quarry Autonomous product powered by Pronto (company statements).
- AI (our reading): Tread's AI sits in the paperwork. Its AI Load Review checks each ticket's quantity, date and ticket number against the job and flags ones that need a look, and it flags possible duplicate tickets; we tag it AI features added to an established product. Pronto's AI drives the truck: its solution page lists computer vision and GNSS, machine-learning object detection to reduce false positives, redundant neural networks and AI-powered collision threat detection, with ADAS, collision avoidance or L4 autonomy depending on site maturity; we tag it AI-first.
- Hardware and site setup: Tread runs on a driver app for iOS and Android with live GPS and offline logs, plus integrations, so no truck hardware is described. Pronto describes a retrofit drive-by-wire kit, a camera- and GPS-based sensor stack instead of radar and lidar, all-stop buttons in manually operated equipment, and private LTE networks from its subsidiary Pollen Mobile, since every AHS deployment needs wireless connectivity.
- Integrations and company: Tread's pricing FAQ lists direct scale ticket integrations with WEM, Astec and Command Alkon APEX, billing data to QuickBooks Online or Desktop, telematics links including Motive and Samsara, and webhooks. Pronto says it is OEM, vehicle and application agnostic; its newsroom lists the acquisition of SafeAI (July 2025), its own acquisition by Atoms (April 6, 2026) and a strategic partnership with Hitachi Construction Machinery (July 2026).
- Pricing (checked Oct 21, 2026): Tread publishes a Tread Platform starter price of $1,250 a month on a 1-year term billed annually ($15,000 a year; $1,389 a month if paid monthly) for trucking companies and brokers and $3,333 a month for producers and contractors, for companies delivering under 30,000 loads, with unlimited users and trucks; Enterprise is custom, and the page is still marked last updated October 11, 2026. Pronto publishes no prices: /pricing returns not found and the calls to action are Contact us and the brochure.
- Not used here: Tread's 10,000+ drivers, hours-saved and 95%+ ticket-reading figures, its ROI calculator output (which it labels an illustrative estimate) and customer quotes, and Pronto's tons-hauled milestone and its fuel, labor and maintenance savings statements (vendor claims). Neither tool has been tested by Means & Methods Lab.
