Hover vs GAF QuickMeasure
Two ways for residential roofers and exterior contractors to get measurements without a tape: a phone scan that builds a 3D model, sold per project with optional annual plans, and per-report roof measurements from the shingle maker GAF. Desk research from vendor pages read Oct 25, 2026; not tested, no winner.
In short: Hover (Smartphone-photo 3D models and exterior/interior measurements; vendor publishes prices) vs GAF QuickMeasure (Steep-slope roof measurement reports from aerial imagery; vendor publishes prices). Facts last checked Oct 25, 2026. No winner declared; not tested.

| Sheet row | Hover | GAF QuickMeasure |
|---|---|---|
| Category | Smartphone-photo 3D models and exterior/interior measurements | Steep-slope roof measurement reports from aerial imagery |
| AI role (our label) | AI features added to established product | Not AI-first |
| What it does | Measure, design and estimate platform for exterior and interior home improvement and insurance work. A contractor, adjuster or invited homeowner takes photos in the Hover app (its help center, updated Feb 20, 2026, says 8 photos, one of each side and corner, with more allowed) and Hover returns a 3D model and measurements for roof, siding, gutters, windows and openings, or roof only; interior scans and blueprint uploads are also offered. Hover's product page calls the photo-to-model step "patented technology" and does not describe it as AI. Its GenAI disclosure (updated Feb 10, 2026) says Hover uses generative AI in select offerings, for example to generate exterior and interior visual designs in Instant Design, combining custom models with pre-trained public ones (it names Stable Diffusion, Realistic Vision, Metric3D, OneFormer, MLSD and NormalBAE) and a dataset of user-submitted images paired with structural annotations such as ridge lines and eaves. Pages read Oct 18, 2026 also list Estimates, Agreements, CRM integrations, an API, Verisk and Cotality estimatics integrations, and for insurers damage assessment and Xactimate-ready scope of loss (Enterprise, contact sales). Vendor says 300K+ construction pros use Hover and 22B+ square feet have been measured (vendor claims, not verified by us). Re-read Oct 19, 2026: the pricing page also prices scans built from blueprints (see pricing). Re-checked Oct 21, 2026: homepage unchanged in substance (scan, design with real materials, measure and estimate; Hover Inspections for insurance). The pricing page's feature table lists direct material ordering with suppliers such as ABC, SRS and QXO and pricing integrations on Pro and above, and Hover Design Embed and homeowner insights on Enterprise only. Re-checked Oct 23, 2026: homepage unchanged in substance. The pricing feature table lists typical turnaround of 12, 4 and 2 hours by plan tier, an expedited option (roof typically within about 1 hour, full exterior within 90 minutes, blueprint uploads excluded), and exports in PDF, XLS, XML, JSON, ESX, SKP, DWG and DXF (Starter lists PDF and ESX). Vendor user counts and testimonials are not used. Re-checked Oct 25, 2026: homepage and pricing page unchanged in substance (phone scan to a 3D model, measurements, design with real products, estimates and inspections; plan tiers Starter, Pro, Business and Enterprise with unlimited users; Business covers up to 10 branches). User counts, square-footage totals and customer quotes are vendor content and not used. | Roof measurement reports from GAF, the roofing manufacturer, for residential steep-slope roofs, ordered online, in the GAF QuickMeasure app or through partner platforms. The product page (read Oct 18, 2026) lists complete roof measurements (eaves, valleys, pitch), high-resolution imagery, a bill of materials, an interactive 3D rendering with edit access that can show different GAF shingle colors and styles, past views and multiple angles, and PDF, XML and DXF files. Add-ons cover local building codes and up to 10 years of hail and wind history, and the separate GAF ScopeConnect service delivers a single-family roof replacement insurance scope written by Xactimate-certified or Cotality (Symbility) trained estimators within 24 hours. The page does not describe AI; we list it for comparison with the AI-labeled report vendors. GAF says roofs are generally about 95% accurate and it replaces a report that falls short if you contact it within 30 days (vendor terms). You do not need to be GAF-certified to order. Re-read Oct 19, 2026: prices, delivery times and FAQ terms unchanged; the table also lists a multiple building summary for multi-family reports. Re-checked Oct 21, 2026 (page rendered in a headless browser; a plain request returned 403): unchanged in substance; the page also says GAF Rewards points can be redeemed to pay for reports. Re-checked Oct 23, 2026 (page rendered in a headless browser; a plain request was refused): unchanged in substance (single-family reports in under an hour and multi-family in under 24 hours, terms apply; nationwide in the US excluding Alaska; interactive 3D rendering, XML data file, ScopeConnect estimates and WeatherHub). Customer quotes are not used. Re-checked Oct 25, 2026 (page read through a web fetch; the box's direct request was refused with HTTP 403): unchanged in substance (complete roof measurements, bill of materials, interactive 3D rendering with edit access, past views, XML data file, PDF, XML and DXF files; codes and hail and wind history add-on; ScopeConnect insurance scopes; about 95% accuracy with a 30-day replacement term). The page still says nationwide in the US excluding Alaska in one place and United States and Canada in its FAQ. Customer testimonials are not used. |
| Who it's for | Roofing, siding and exterior contractors, remodelers, restoration firms, insurance carriers and adjusters. | Residential and multi-family roofing contractors in the US (the page body says nationwide excluding Alaska; its FAQ says the US and Canada). |

Where the vendor descriptions differ
- Capture: Hover says you scan the property with a phone to build a 3D model, with no special equipment or training; its FAQ says homeowners can complete the scan in the Hover app for insurance claims. GAF QuickMeasure reports are ordered online, in the GAF QuickMeasure app or through partner platforms, and are built from high-resolution imagery with past views and multiple angles; the page does not describe anyone visiting the property.
- Scope: Hover covers full exteriors, roof-only scans, interiors and blueprint uploads, plus design with real products, estimates, agreements and inspections. GAF QuickMeasure covers residential steep-slope roofs (single-family and multi-family), with a bill of materials, an editable interactive 3D rendering, and PDF, XML and DXF files.
- Delivery: Hover says roof measurements are typically delivered within 1 hour and full exteriors within 90 minutes, excluding blueprint uploads, with paid expedited delivery. GAF lists 1 hour or less for single-family and 24 hours or less for multi-family, with a credit if a report is late (terms apply).
- Pricing shape: Hover charges per project by complexity (roof-only $29 to $69 and full exterior $59 to $139 on the pay-per-project Starter plan, first 3 projects free); Pro at $999 a year takes $20 off every project and Business at $2,999 a year sets flat rates ($39 roof-only, $79 full exterior). GAF charges $20 per single-family parcel and $60 per multi-family building, or $18 and $54 for GAF Master Elite contractors, plus $10 for building codes and hail and wind history.
- Insurance work: Hover lists sending measurements to Verisk, Xactimate and Cotality. GAF's separate ScopeConnect service delivers a single-family roof replacement scope written by Xactimate-certified or Cotality (Symbility) trained estimators within 24 hours.
- AI and accuracy: Hover's site links free AI design tools; GAF's page does not describe AI. GAF says roofs are generally about 95% accurate and it replaces a report that falls short if contacted within 30 days (vendor terms); we found no comparable accuracy term on the Hover pages read.
- Not used here: Hover's user and square-footage counts and customer quotes, GAF's roofer testimonials and its time-and-money savings calculator.
