What it doesMeasure, design and estimate platform for exterior and interior home improvement and insurance work. A contractor, adjuster or invited homeowner takes photos in the Hover app (its help center, updated Feb 20, 2026, says 8 photos, one of each side and corner, with more allowed) and Hover returns a 3D model and measurements for roof, siding, gutters, windows and openings, or roof only; interior scans and blueprint uploads are also offered. Hover's product page calls the photo-to-model step "patented technology" and does not describe it as AI. Its GenAI disclosure (updated Feb 10, 2026) says Hover uses generative AI in select offerings, for example to generate exterior and interior visual designs in Instant Design, combining custom models with pre-trained public ones (it names Stable Diffusion, Realistic Vision, Metric3D, OneFormer, MLSD and NormalBAE) and a dataset of user-submitted images paired with structural annotations such as ridge lines and eaves. Pages read Oct 18, 2026 also list Estimates, Agreements, CRM integrations, an API, Verisk and Cotality estimatics integrations, and for insurers damage assessment and Xactimate-ready scope of loss (Enterprise, contact sales). Vendor says 300K+ construction pros use Hover and 22B+ square feet have been measured (vendor claims, not verified by us). Re-read Oct 19, 2026: the pricing page also prices scans built from blueprints (see pricing).Roofing software that pairs aerial roof measurement reports with a CRM (job boards, proposals, e-signatures, invoices and payments, material ordering through ABC Supply, QXO and SRS, CompanyCam and QuickBooks integrations). Roofr Reports are ordered by address from aerial imagery and include pitch, squares, edges, a waste factor and material lists; Roofr says every report goes through a multi-check system and at least one Roofr expert reviews each report before delivery, and that it is the only service that lets you edit a finished report (vendor claim). A DIY tool lets you draw your own report from aerial, drone or blueprint images. The AI on the pages we read (Oct 18, 2026) is outside the measurement step: an AI Receptionist add-on that answers calls 24/7, books appointments, gives quotes and creates job cards, and Roofr Sites, described as AI-built websites. The Instant Estimator gives homeowners a roof estimate from their address based on the contractor's pricing. Re-read Oct 19, 2026: homepage unchanged in substance.

Where the vendor descriptions differ

  • Capture: Hover's help center says 8 photos in its app, one of each side and corner, taken by the contractor, an adjuster or an invited homeowner; blueprint uploads and interior scans are also offered. Roofr reports come from aerial imagery ordered by address, so nobody visits the property, and its DIY tool lets you draw a report yourself on aerial, drone or blueprint images.
  • Outputs: Hover returns a 3D model with measurements for roof, siding, gutters, windows and openings, or roof only. Roofr reports include pitch, squares, edges, a waste factor and material lists, with ESX files for Xactimate. Roofr says at least one Roofr expert reviews every report before delivery and that finished reports can be edited (vendor claims).
  • Beyond measurement: Hover lists estimates, agreements, CRM integrations, an API and, for insurers on Enterprise, damage assessment and Xactimate-ready scope of loss. Roofr is itself a roofing CRM: job boards, proposals, e-signatures, invoices and payments, and material ordering through ABC Supply, QXO and SRS.
  • AI: Hover's GenAI disclosure says it uses generative AI in select offerings, such as Instant Design visuals; its product page calls the photo-to-model step patented technology. Roofr's AI on the pages we read is outside the measurement step: an AI Receptionist add-on that answers calls and books appointments, and Roofr Sites, described as AI-built websites.
  • Pricing (checked Oct 19, 2026): Hover's Starter plan is pay per project (first 3 projects free) with full exterior scans at $59, $99 or $139 by facet count and roof-only from $29; Pro is $999 a year for $20 off every project, and Business is $2,999 a year for flat rates ($79 exterior, $39 roof). Roofr's Starter plan is $0 a month with $19 reports, or $13 reports with Measure+ ($109 to $169 a month) or the Essentials ($249 a month, $209 billed yearly) and Scale ($349, $299 yearly) plans; AI Receptionist is $99 a month ($85 yearly). Different deliverables, so not like-for-like.
  • Who each names: Hover names roofing, siding and exterior contractors, remodelers, restoration firms and insurers; Roofr names residential roofing contractors. Not used here: Hover's 300K+ pros and 22B+ square feet figures (vendor claims). Neither tool has been tested by Means & Methods Lab.

The facts above come from vendor websites. Whether either tool is any good for your work is something only people who use them can say. These are member reviews, all ratings shown, never edited or removed for being negative.

Used either of these? Share your take

Good or bad, an honest review from an estimator, PM or super helps the next team more than another vendor demo. You post under a handle; your email is never shown.

Questions to ask in your review

  • Measured squares, pitch and edge lengths from both on the same roofs, against roofs you have already measured by hand or drone
  • How each handles roofs under trees, new construction missing from aerial imagery, and multi-structure lots
  • What each costs per month at your report volume once Roofr's CRM plan or Hover's annual plan is counted
  • What did you use it for, on what kind of work and project size?
  • How long did setup and training take, and who on your team did it?
  • What does it cost you in practice, compared with what the sales call said?
