Countfire vs Exayard
Two takeoff tools that count and measure from drawings. Countfire is built around symbol counting for electrical and mechanical estimators; Exayard describes AI takeoff across many trades. Exayard is planned for Round 1 (AI Takeoff); Countfire is not yet scheduled.

| AI role (our label) | AI features added to established product | AI-first |
| What it does | PDF takeoff and estimating software that counts symbols across every drawing in a project, with built-in checks that flag missed symbols or incomplete counts. "Smart Select" is described as AI trained on real takeoff data that names and organizes items as it counts. Also auto-counts revised drawings, compares specifications, and produces client-ready Excel quotes from your price list. Cloud-based in a desktop browser on PC or Mac (FAQ says tablets and mobile are not supported); integrates with Excel and Dropbox. Part of TAG Software Group (Valsoft). | AI takeoff and estimating platform: upload PDF, image, or CAD (DWG/DXF/DGN) plans, describe what to count or measure in plain language, review the detected quantities, and turn them into a priced estimate. Offers a REST API, MCP server, webhooks, and CLI. |
| Who it's for | Electrical and mechanical contractors' estimating teams. | Contractors across trades (vendor lists concrete, electrical, roofing, framing, plumbing, drywall, and more). |
| Pricing (as publicly stated) | Not publicly listed (countfire.com/pricing now redirects to a contact page). FAQ says a free 7-day trial is offered. (Re-checked Oct 15, 2026.) | Per-user subscription plus metered AI usage. Starter $99/user/month ($100 AI credits, up to 50 manual takeoffs/month), Professional $249/user/month ($250 AI credits, unlimited manual takeoffs), Enterprise custom ($1,000+ AI credits/user/month). Developer docs say AI takeoffs are metered and a plan sheet averages about 15 credits (stated as an average, not a price). (Pricing re-checked Oct 14, 2026.) |

Where the vendor descriptions differ
- Audience: Countfire names electrical and mechanical contractors' estimating teams, and its FAQ describes it as designed for electrical estimators. Exayard lists concrete, electrical, roofing, framing, plumbing, drywall, and other trades.
- How counting works: Countfire describes detecting and counting symbols across every drawing in a project from a single selection, with Smart Select (AI trained on real takeoff data) naming and organizing items as it counts, and built-in checks that flag missed symbols or incomplete counts. Exayard describes telling the tool in plain language what to count or measure, then reviewing the detected quantities.
- Inputs and platform: Exayard lists PDF, image, and CAD (DWG/DXF/DGN) plans. Countfire describes PDF takeoff in a desktop web browser on PC or Mac; its FAQ says tablets and mobile devices are not supported.
- Estimate output and integrations: Countfire builds the estimate in the app from your price list and kits and produces a client-ready Excel quote; it names Excel and Dropbox integrations. Exayard turns quantities into a priced estimate and offers a REST API, MCP server, webhooks, and CLI, with Zapier, n8n, and Make.com on Professional.
- Revisions: Countfire describes auto-counting revised drawings and comparing specifications. We did not record a revision-comparison feature for Exayard.
- Pricing: Countfire publishes no prices (its pricing page routes to a contact form) and its FAQ offers a 7-day free trial. Exayard lists Starter $99/user/month ($100 AI credits) and Professional $249/user/month ($250 AI credits), with custom Enterprise.
- Accuracy claims: we recorded no accuracy percentage from either vendor; Countfire describes built-in accuracy checks. Nothing here has been tested by Means & Methods Lab.

What we can't tell you yet
Which tool is better for your work. That needs testing on the same package with a verified answer key. Planned measures for this comparison:
- Quantity error against a verified answer key on a civil bid-item schedule
- Missed items and false counts
- Minutes to first result and minutes for an estimator to correct the output
- Count changes caught on a revised drawing set (devices added, removed, or moved)
