Foreman AI vs Togal
Two AI takeoff tools that read PDF plan sets, sold in different shapes. Togal is a dedicated AI takeoff tool for estimators, with automatic detection and measurement, drawing-set comparison and chat with the plans, sold per user. Foreman AI is a broader AI agent for contractors that pairs a takeoff studio with estimating, proposals, sub bid packages, email follow-up and job paperwork, sold as monthly plans that include AI credits. Desk research from vendor pages read Oct 27, 2026; not tested, no winner.
In short: Foreman AI (Estimating copilot; vendor publishes prices) vs Togal.AI (Takeoff; vendor publishes prices). Facts last checked Oct 27, 2026. No winner declared; not tested.

| What it does | AI assistant for contractors that reads full plan sets and project manuals on upload and answers plain-English questions with sheet citations. It also offers Takeoff Studio (calibrated, correctable takeoff objects), cross-discipline conflict flags, a budget builder priced from your cost catalog, company history, AI market estimates, or web pricing, and generators for proposals, RFIs, reports, and schedules of values. Earthwork takeoff computes cut/fill from traced PDF contours and spot grades (vendor notes accuracy tracks the plan's contour interval). Vendor says it was built by a licensed contractor and runs on US-based servers. Re-checked Oct 19, 2026: the pricing page still lists Free, Starter, Pro, Elite and Enterprise; Starter and Pro still include matching monthly AI credits and voice-chat minute bands (~200 at $2.00/min on Starter, ~600 at $1.33/min on Pro); Elite is Contact us for pricing in the compare table (3 seats, unlimited AI usage, shared Project Brain and Plan Vault) while a plan card on the same page also shows Elite White Glove at $1,499/mo; Enterprise lists integrations such as Procore, QuickBooks/accounting and JobTread. Re-checked Oct 20, 2026: pricing page unchanged in substance; the Elite column lists training the AI on historical project data and a shared Project Brain, Enterprise lists Procore, QuickBooks/accounting, JobTread, email, file storage and ERP workflow setup, and the billing notes say Foreman asks for confirmation before writing to connected systems and accepts Visa and Mastercard only. The earthwork page still says contour-based cut/fill accuracy tracks the plan's contour interval. Re-checked Oct 22, 2026: pricing page unchanged in substance (Elite adds a shared Project Brain and training on historical project data; Enterprise lists Procore, QuickBooks/accounting, JobTread, email, file storage, ERP and desktop workflow setup). Re-checked Oct 23, 2026: the site's Features menu now lists Takeoff Studio, Civil & Sitework, Plan Intelligence, Computer Control, Project Brain, Estimating & Docs, Email Intelligence, a Job Board & Subs area (post jobs, find subs, reviews, ratings and bid interest) and Integrations (JobTread, Procore, QuickBooks and API). Re-checked Oct 24, 2026: the Features menu and earthwork page are unchanged in substance (Takeoff Studio, Civil & Sitework, Plan Intelligence, Computer Control, Project Brain, Estimating & Docs, Email Intelligence, Job Board & Subs and Integrations; cut/fill from traced existing and proposed contours on the PDF grading plan, with accuracy tracking the plan's contour interval and bank and loose yards reported). Re-checked Oct 25, 2026: features menu and pricing page unchanged in substance. A retention discount offer in the cancel flow is not treated as a list price. Re-checked Oct 26, 2026: earthwork takeoff page and pricing page unchanged in substance (cut and fill traced from PDF grading plans; Takeoff Studio, Plan Intelligence, Computer Control, Project Brain and Job Board in the features menu). Re-checked Oct 27, 2026: the homepage now leads with Foreman running the whole job through eight stages, from leads, bids and sub bid packages (subs price from one link with no login) through COI and W-9 chasing, change orders, pay apps, lien waivers, closeout and warranty, with the user approving key steps. It also says Takeoff Studio now uses Foreman's own model, trained on permit-set floor plans, that measures vector PDFs (wall tracing in linear feet, room square footage, symbol counts) and, on scanned sheets, says it cannot measure and hands over the manual tools. Pricing and earthwork pages unchanged in substance. Dollar-volume counters and the customer logo strip are vendor content and are not used. | AI-powered takeoff tool that the vendor says automatically detects, measures, and compares spaces and features on drawings. It adds cloud collaboration, drawing-set comparison, and a Togal.CHAT feature for querying plans. Vendor claims up to 98% accuracy on floor plans (vendor claim, not verified). Ediphi's blog announced a native Ediphi-Togal integration that brings Togal takeoff quantities into Ediphi estimates, ahead of its debut at Advancing Preconstruction in May 2026. Re-read Oct 20, 2026: homepage unchanged in substance (automatic detection, measurement and drawing-set comparison, cloud collaboration, Togal.CHAT, trade pages). The 98% accuracy and 5x-faster lines and the customer quotes are vendor claims not used here. Where the vendor descriptions differ
- Takeoff: Togal says it automatically detects, measures and compares from your drawings, analyzes any drawing file type, compares drawing sets to quantify changes with one click, and lets you chat with the plans through Togal.CHAT; its pricing lists unlimited automated takeoffs and unlimited image and symbol searches. Foreman AI says Takeoff Studio uses its own model, trained on permit-set floor plans, to trace walls in linear feet, fill rooms for square footage and count matching symbols on vector PDFs, and that on a scanned sheet it says it cannot measure and hands you the manual tools.
- Civil and sitework: Foreman AI has an earthwork page that computes cut, fill and net import or export from the PDF grading plan by tracing existing and proposed contours and spot grades. Togal's trade pages cover building trades (doors and hardware, drywall, electrical, flooring, framing and lumber, glazing, painting) and general contractors; it does not describe earthwork on the pages we read.
- Scope beyond takeoff: Foreman AI describes running the whole job through eight stages, from leads and sub bid packages (subs price from one link with no login) through estimates, proposals, RFIs, COI and W-9 chasing, change orders, pay apps, lien waivers and closeout, plus email and phone connections and integrations with JobTread, Procore and QuickBooks. Togal stays focused on takeoff and estimating, with real-time cloud collaboration and, on its Growth plan, unlimited external collaboration with users outside your account.
- AI: both are tagged AI-first. Togal's AI is takeoff detection and plan chat; Foreman AI's is an agent you instruct by chat or voice, with a takeoff model inside it.
- Pricing (checked Oct 27, 2026): Togal Growth is $299 a month per user, billed yearly; Business is custom for teams of 4+ users and adds onboarding, a dedicated support rep, quantity discounts and SSO. Foreman AI has a Free plan with starter AI credits and 10 voice minutes, Starter at $399 a month and Pro at $799 a month (each 1 seat, with that amount in monthly AI credits), Elite by contact with 3 seats and unlimited AI usage, and Enterprise custom. See each tool page for detail.
- Not like-for-like: Togal is a per-seat takeoff tool for estimating teams; Foreman AI is a credit-based agent aimed at contractors who want takeoff, estimating and job paperwork in one place, with a single seat on its self-serve paid plans.
- Not used here: Togal's accuracy and speed figures and customer quotes, and Foreman AI's dollar-volume counters and customer logo strip (vendor material). Neither tool has been tested by Means & Methods Lab.
