ConstructConnect vs STACK

Two established cloud takeoff vendors that have added AI, compared here on takeoff. ConstructConnect Takeoff is a browser-based takeoff app from the company behind On-Screen Takeoff and PlanSwift, with Auto Name, Auto Scale and Auto Takeoff (part of Takeoff BOOST) and a stated focus on interior trades; STACK is a cloud takeoff, estimating and field platform that calls itself an AI preconstruction platform, with AI page naming, revision flags, auto-counting and estimate checks. Partly like-for-like: ConstructConnect also sells project leads and other takeoff products, and STACK adds estimating and field tools in one platform. Desk research from vendor sites read Oct 30, 2026; no winner.

What it doesConstruction project data and preconstruction software, which the vendor calls powered by AI, for finding projects, doing takeoff and estimating, and managing bids. Products listed include Project Intelligence (project leads; information combines an in-house research team with AI, and includes Ask Docs AI document search), Material Intelligence / Material Quantities (a beta search that uses AI to pull materials, quantities and manufacturers from plans and schedules; a vendor blog calls it a qualifying step, not a substitute for verifying the plans), ConstructConnect Takeoff with Takeoff BOOST (browser-based AI takeoff with Auto Name and Auto Count), Takeoff as a Service, On-Screen Takeoff (described as using AI-enabled tools), PlanSwift, Quick Bid, QuoteSoft, SmartBid, Bid Management and iSqFt for GCs. Flag: the vendor's own pages cite conflicting project counts, so we use none of them; customer counts, ratings and testimonials are not used either.Cloud-based construction software covering digital takeoff, estimating and proposals, and field/project management ("Build & Operate"). The vendor describes STACK as an AI preconstruction platform: STACK IQ reads uploaded sheets, auto-names and organizes pages, offers advanced plan search and flags revisions; AI auto-counts symbols and suggests scope that may be missed; and AI is described as pressure-testing pricing and flagging risk, gaps and pricing drift in estimates. A vendor blog article describes STACK IQ connecting Claude and ChatGPT to STACK projects. The menu also lists STACK for Excel, built with partner Velixo. Unlimited viewer seats and a jobsite mobile app. Revenue, win-rate and speed lines, ratings and quotes are vendor claims not used here.

Where the vendor descriptions differ

  • Where the AI sits: ConstructConnect says its web app names pages and sets the scale on upload, and Auto Takeoff measures linear, area and count conditions; its pricing table limits Auto Name and Auto Scale to 25 plans per project on Starter and puts Auto Takeoff on Professional. STACK says its AI reads every sheet, auto-names pages and flags revisions, auto-counts symbols and suggests scope you might miss, and pressure-tests pricing and flags risk, gaps and pricing drift in estimates.
  • Who it's for: ConstructConnect's FAQ says Takeoff is built for interior trade contractors (drywall, acoustical ceiling tile, painting and flooring) and runs in any browser, including Chromebook, iPad and phones. STACK lists trade pages for concrete and masonry, drywall, electrical, framing, general contractors, insulation, mechanical, painting, plumbing, roofing, site work and suppliers, with unlimited viewer seats and a jobsite mobile app.
  • Beyond takeoff: ConstructConnect exports quantities to Excel or PDF and sells separate products for estimating and bidding (Quick Bid, QuoteSoft, SmartBid) and project leads (Project Intelligence). STACK runs takeoff into its own worksheet-style estimating with items and assemblies, proposals, STACK for Excel (with Velixo) and Build & Operate field tools (plan viewing, punch lists, daily reports, workflows).
  • Pricing (checked Oct 30, 2026): ConstructConnect Takeoff is on annual contracts: Starter $1,200 a year per seat (1 seat max, 25 plans per project, 1 user) and Professional $2,200 a year for the first seat and $1,700 for each additional seat (unlimited plans, Auto Takeoff, view and edit collaborators); its FAQ says mid-term cancellations are not refunded. STACK lists Takeoff & Estimate as low as $299 per user a month, Build & Operate as low as $49 and the full platform as low as $348, with a free version of Takeoff & Estimate and a two-week trial of Build & Operate.
  • Not used here: ConstructConnect's customer counts, review-site star ratings and customer quotes, and STACK's revenue, win-rate and speed lines, star rating and customer quotes (vendor material). Facts for both tools come from vendor websites (desk research).

Questions to ask in your review

  • How each tool's AI handles your own plan sets, including poor scans and revisions
  • Whether you want takeoff that exports to your existing estimate (ConstructConnect) or takeoff, estimating and field tools in one platform (STACK)
  • What STACK's "as low as" prices come to for your seat count and term
  • What did you use it for, on what kind of work and project size?
  • How long did setup and training take, and who on your team did it?
  • What does it cost you in practice, compared with what the sales call said?
