AI in field service software for HVAC, plumbing and electrical contractors in 2026: ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro, Jobber and Workiz
For HVAC, plumbing and electrical service contractors, AI mostly arrives inside the field service management platform that already books, dispatches and invoices the work. In 2026 the four platforms we read all sell the same headline feature, an AI agent that answers the phone and books jobs, and most add an assistant that answers questions about your own numbers. ServiceTitan goes further into dispatch, pricing and fleet models aimed at larger and commercial shops; Housecall Pro and Jobber publish plan prices for smaller teams; Workiz bundles AI into its phone system and add-ons. We read vendor pages on Oct 18, 2026. Desk research, not tested, no winner; vendor statements are labeled as vendor claims.

AI call answering and booking: the feature all four sell
Every platform here markets a 24/7 AI agent that answers calls and books work into the schedule from the data already in the account. ServiceTitan's AI Virtual Agent books straight to the dispatch board using its Adaptive Capacity rules (job type, location, skills), confirms and reschedules appointments, can text, and transfers to a live CSR; ServiceTitan says it works with Contact Center Pro or another phone system. Housecall Pro's CSR AI answers calls and website chats (text answering listed as coming soon) and books from your services, hours and availability. Jobber's Receptionist answers calls and texts, books visits from your online booking settings, creates requests, takes messages and texts back callers who hang up. Workiz Genius Answering covers calls, emails, SMS, lead sources and web forms, in English, Spanish or French, and can book, reschedule or cancel jobs.
Escalation is where a service shop should look hardest. Jobber lets you choose keywords (its examples: burst pipe, no heat, a commercial account) that put the caller through or text you; Workiz and ServiceTitan describe live transfer to your team; Housecall Pro sends a caller who asks for a person to a number you choose or to a Housecall Pro Assist rep. Housecall Pro also says you choose whether the greeting discloses that it is AI; ServiceTitan says you control how its agent introduces itself.
Assistants that answer questions about your business
Housecall Pro lists Analyst AI (questions such as revenue this month, job trends, team performance), Coach AI (recommendations on growth, pricing and hiring), Marketing AI and Help AI, and its FAQ says these are included on all plans. Jobber AI answers business questions by chat on web and mobile or by voice on mobile, blending your data with insights from other home service companies, and can build a custom report from live data. ServiceTitan's Atlas answers technicians' questions from ServiceTitan data and, with Field Pro, from equipment manuals, spec sheets and installation guides, and helps with troubleshooting; ServiceTitan lists Atlas in the office as coming soon.
In the field, Jobber AI Voice lets technicians log notes and update jobs hands-free in any language with note translation.
Dispatch, pricing and marketing models (mostly ServiceTitan)
ServiceTitan's Titan Intelligence page lists AI and analytics features beyond answering: Job Value Predictor and Dispatch Pro, which it says set up the dispatch board using job value predictions and recent technician performance; Second Chance Leads, which flags unbooked calls a call back might save; Price Insights in Pricebook Pro, which compares your price for a service with the regional average selling price; a quarterly Benchmark Report against similar businesses; an Ads Optimizer that feeds ServiceTitan revenue data into Google Ads; review response, invoice summary and invoice email generators; and risky driver detection in Fleet Pro. ServiceTitan also says its Titan Intelligence analyzes aggregate data from its system; read its data terms if that matters to you.
Workiz lists Genius Leads and Genius Scheduling on its Pro and Ultimate plans and Genius Marketing with an AI writer and designers; Housecall Pro's Marketing AI drafts emails, campaigns and service descriptions.
Pricing snapshot (vendor pages read Oct 18, 2026)
ServiceTitan: no public prices; per-technician pricing across Starter, Essentials and The Works by request; Pro products such as the AI Virtual Agent priced separately.
Housecall Pro: Basic $59, Essentials $149 and Max $299 a month billed annually ($79, $189 and $329 monthly), with 1, 5 and 8 users included and $35 per added user; 14-day free trial; CSR AI 24/7 call answering sold separately (price not listed).
Jobber: for one user, Core $29, Connect $99 and Grow $149 a month billed annually ($49, $139 and $199 with no commitment); Plus from $399 a month annually with 5 users; $29 per added user; Receptionist listed on Plus and as an add-on; 14-day free trial.
Workiz: no public prices for its Standard, Pro and Ultimate plans or Genius add-ons; the FAQ says annual plans save $400+ and offers a 7-day free trial.
These are list prices on different user rules and the AI answering is often an add-on, so they are not like-for-like. For commercial trade estimating from plans rather than service work, Beam AI (read Oct 15, 2026) lists do-it-yourself AI takeoff from $8K a year per trade for HVAC, plumbing and steel.
Questions to ask before an AI answers your phones
These are our suggestions, not findings. Is AI call answering included on your plan, and how is it billed (flat, per call, per minute)? What can it book without a person, and can you block job types such as gas leaks, no-heat calls in winter or commercial accounts? What does it say about price and dispatch fees? How does it hand off an emergency at 2 a.m., and to whom? Can you hear recordings and read transcripts, and does it tell callers it is AI where your state requires it? Test it yourself by calling it with your ten most common call types before it goes live.
