TraceAir vs DroneDeploy
Two drone-based site intelligence platforms sold in different ways (our reading). TraceAir is a fully managed service for homebuilders and land developers: it handles the flights, processing and hosting, and adds lot yield, earthwork, lot grade and stormwater tools plus licensed surveys in four states. DroneDeploy, now owned by Procore, is a reality capture platform your own team or docked drones fly, extended to 360 walks, robots and fixed cameras, with Progress AI and Safety AI add-ons. Desk research from vendor pages read Oct 23, 2026; not tested, no winner.
In short: TraceAir (Site intelligence for homebuilders & land developers; no public prices (quote / sales)) vs DroneDeploy (Reality capture (aerial & ground); vendor publishes prices). Facts last checked Oct 23, 2026. No winner declared; not tested.

| What it does | Drone and LiDAR site intelligence across land acquisition, land development, vertical construction and portfolio oversight. Tools listed: a Lot Yield Estimator (Layout Generator) that turns raw land into lot yields, LiDAR scans, earthwork cut/fill analysis, stormwater drainage reports, lot grade verification (Lot Viewer), TraceWalk 360 interior scanning, and licensed ALTA and topographic surveys in select states through TraceAir Surveying Inc. Vendor says it is trusted by 18 of the top 20 U.S. builders (vendor claim). The pages we read do not describe the AI in detail, so we tag it AI features added. Re-read Oct 17, 2026: homepage unchanged in substance (land acquisition through handover, Lot Viewer, stormwater slope and drainage reports, stockpile and cut/fill detection, TraceWalk 360 and a time-stamped site history); its footer says TraceAir drone scans are not licensed surveys and may not be relied on as such. Re-checked Oct 19, 2026: homepage unchanged in substance (land acquisition through handover, Stormwater Slope and Drainage Reports, Lot Viewer, TraceWalk 360, licensed surveys through TraceAir Surveying Inc in select states, 18 of the top 20 U.S. builders; vendor claims). Where the vendor descriptions differ
- Who flies: TraceAir's pricing FAQ says it is a fully managed, turnkey service that handles flights, data capture, processing and hosting, and that scan data is typically available within 24 hours of a flight; its site also invites drone pilots to fly for it. DroneDeploy's plans are built around your own capture: its Aerial plan automates flights including docked drones through its Flight app, its Ground plans cover 360 walks and phone-based 3D scans, and add-ons cover Dock Automation and Robotic Automation.
- Scope (vendor pages): TraceAir lists land acquisition, land development, vertical construction and portfolio oversight, with a Lot Yield Estimator (Layout Generator), LiDAR scans, cut/fill and stockpile analysis, Lot Viewer grade verification, stormwater slope and drainage reports, TraceWalk 360 interior scanning and a time-stamped site history. DroneDeploy lists orthomosaics, 3D models, design overlays, earthworks cut/fill by region with quantity export (Aerial Pro), 360 walks with BIM and drawing overlays, interior maps and 3D walks (Ground Pro), with export and sync to Esri, Autodesk and Procore.
- Where the AI sits: DroneDeploy names it: Progress AI turns interior 360 walks and aerial imagery into progress reports without a 3D model, Safety AI flags OSHA safety risks, and the homepage describes visual defect detection ranked by severity and AI agents that surface schedule or safety risks. The TraceAir pages we read describe analysis tools but do not describe the AI in detail.
- Surveys: TraceAir's footer says its drone scans are not licensed surveys and may not be relied on as such; ALTA and topographic surveys are offered through TraceAir Surveying Inc with a state-licensed partner in California, North Carolina, Florida and Nevada only. DroneDeploy's Aerial Pro lists automated GCP tagging, in-app accuracy alerts and expert map review; the pages we read do not offer licensed surveys.
- Pricing (checked Oct 23, 2026): TraceAir publishes no prices; pricing varies by acreage, service frequency and site conditions, projects get unlimited users, and project data stays available after a complimentary period through a post-project data subscription. DroneDeploy team plans (Unified, Aerial Pro, Aerial, Ground Pro, Ground) are custom quotes; the individual Flight & Analysis plan is $4,188 billed annually for one admin user and up to 3,000 images per map, without ground capture processing. Builder counts, award badges, site counts, ROI calculator estimates and customer quotes on both sites are vendor content and are not used here.

Questions to ask in your review
- What a managed TraceAir program costs against flying DroneDeploy yourself for the same number of sites and flights
- How each handles earthwork quantities on your own grading plans
- How Procore ownership changes DroneDeploy's plans or integrations over time
- What did you use it for, on what kind of work and project size?
- How long did setup and training take, and who on your team did it?
- What does it cost you in practice, compared with what the sales call said?
