Opusense vs Raken

Two per-user field reporting apps with published prices that come at the job from different sides. Opusense is an AI-first report writer: inspectors and site teams speak and photograph observations and the AI drafts a branded report, with a reviewer workflow and assistants that answer questions over reports and documents. Raken is a broad daily reporting and field management app for contractor crews (daily reports, time and production, materials, equipment, safety, RFIs and forms) whose pages do not describe AI. Vendor pages read Oct 22, 2026; desk research, not tested, no winner.

What it doesAI report writing for field inspectors and site teams: walk the site, speak observations, take photos, and the AI drafts an organized report. The site (read Oct 18, 2026) calls it an AI-native field operations platform with a workspace per organization, shaped for constructors and GCs (progress capture, tasks, owner progress reports), field review teams such as engineers and architects (reports in the firm's branding with an audit trail) and owners and facility managers (a portfolio view). The iOS and Android app captures time-stamped, GPS-tagged photos with annotations, voice notes converted to text and typed notes with templates, and works offline. Plan features include AI-enabled phrasing, automated photo caption referencing, a reviewer workflow, a dashboard assistant for querying reports and, on Teams, a field assistant for document questions. The site states SOC 2 Type II certification (vendor statement). Its YC profile says report writing time is cut by 5x (vendor claim, not verified). Y Combinator batch: Spring 2025 (YC company profile). Re-read Oct 19, 2026: unchanged in substance (SOC 2 Type II, builders, engineers and owners views). Re-checked Oct 22, 2026: homepage and pricing page unchanged in substance (constructors, field review teams and owners/facility managers; offline mobile app with photo, voice and typed notes; SOC 2 Type II stated). The footer says it is backed by Y Combinator and built in Toronto.Field-first web and mobile app for daily progress reports, time and production tracking, materials and equipment, safety, RFIs, forms and documents. Daily reports collect notes, photos, and videos that sync in real time and generate a shareable PDF daily report; the app also covers material and equipment tracking, safety and quality checklists, observations, toolbox talks, incidents with OSHA submit, RFIs, digital forms, and document storage. The homepage and pricing pages we re-checked Oct 16 and Oct 19, 2026 still do not describe AI features, so we keep the Not AI-first tag. The Oct 19 navigation also lists resource scheduling, certifications and labor map, project management and RFIs. Re-checked Oct 21, 2026: the homepage and pricing page still do not describe AI features (Not AI-first tag kept); the plan comparison still lists resource scheduling, time tracking with geofencing, kiosk mode, certifications and labor map, incidents with OSHA submit, RFIs, digital forms and document storage. App-store rating figures on the homepage are not used here. Re-checked Oct 22, 2026 (homepage and rendered pricing page): still no AI features described (Not AI-first tag kept); the navigation now lists submittals under project management and a Who We Serve menu that includes heavy civil.

Where the vendor descriptions differ

  • What each produces: Opusense centres on the written field report. Notes captured as voice, photos and typed text become a draft report in the firm's branding, with AI phrasing, photo caption references and an audit trail, and a reviewer workflow on Pro and above. Raken's daily report collects notes, photos and videos that sync in real time and generates a shareable PDF, alongside separate tools for time and production tracking, materials and equipment, safety and quality checklists, incidents with OSHA submit, RFIs, forms, submittals and document storage.
  • Who it is for: Opusense names three groups: constructors and GCs (progress capture, tasks, owner progress reports), field review teams such as engineers, architects and building envelope, roofing and restoration consultants, and owners and facility managers (a portfolio view). Raken is aimed at contractors' field crews, superintendents and safety managers, and its menu now includes heavy civil among the groups it serves.
  • Mobile and offline: both offer iOS and Android apps. Opusense says its app works offline and captures time-stamped, GPS-tagged photos with annotations. Raken says field data syncs in real time from its mobile app.
  • Pricing (checked Oct 22, 2026): both publish per-user prices. Opusense lists Base $49 (up to 100 report pages), Pro $79 (up to 1,000 pages, reviewer workflow, dashboard assistant, French, English and Spanish) and Teams $149 (unlimited reports, field assistant for document questions, insights and weekly summary emails) per user per month, Enterprise custom, billed monthly or annually in USD or CAD with a 14-day free trial and no credit card. Raken lists Basic $23 and Performance $59 per user per month in USD, billed annually with a 3-user minimum, with 5% off shown at 5 users and 10% off at 10, and bulk discounts through sales. The plans cover different scopes, so the figures are not like for like.
  • Security: Opusense states SOC 2 Type II certification; the Raken pages we read do not list a certification.
  • AI tags: Opusense is tagged AI-first. Raken is tagged Not AI-first: its homepage and pricing page do not describe AI features.
  • Not used here: Opusense's report-writing time claim from its YC profile and Raken's app-store rating figures (vendor material). Neither tool has been tested by Means & Methods Lab.
