EarthCam vs Timescapes

Two construction camera vendors that sell hardware plus software for a continuous visual record of a jobsite, with AI on top. EarthCam sells 4K pan-tilt-zoom cameras, trailers, a robotic interior camera and security services, with a broad AI line that now includes MCP connectors passing its pre-analyzed jobsite data to Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini. Timescapes sells self-contained solar, cellular cameras with a platform built around progress tracking, claims evidence and job site analytics, with AI that detects concrete trucks, excavators and personnel. Neither publishes prices. Vendor pages read Oct 21, 2026; desk research, not tested, no winner.

What it doesTime-lapse construction cameras, live streaming and AI analytics, with 4K pan-tilt-zoom cameras, mobile trailers and AI security offerings. The vendor says its machine learning identifies over 110 types of construction materials, vehicles and safety issues (vendor claim). Hardware includes ConstructionCam 4K (360° pan-tilt-zoom), mobile jobsite trailers and Mobile StreamCam Robotic (portable interior camera with AI insights and air-quality monitoring). Security offering lists AI analytics, edge recording and 24/7 central station monitoring. Homepage promotes a 10th-generation Procore integration and other project management integrations. Re-checked Oct 19, 2026: the homepage also lists Command Watch24 security services, Full Service Support and a Live Weather Service. Re-checked Oct 21, 2026 (homepage rendered in a headless browser): unchanged in substance (machine-learning detection of construction materials, vehicles and safety issues, ConstructionCam 4K, mobile jobsite trailers, 10th-generation Procore integration); the navigation now also lists Agentic AI, Jobsite Health, Control Center 9, EarthCam 3D and EarthCam Air pages (not read this pass). Read later on Oct 21, 2026: the Agentic AI page describes EarthCam Construction AI Connectors built on Model Context Protocol (MCP) that give Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI tools access to EarthCam's pre-analyzed jobsite data, for questions about progress, deliveries, safety and equipment and for agents assigned recurring tasks such as safety reviews and delivery summaries. The AI page lists PPE, fall-risk and workers-at-height alerts, AI dumpster monitoring, AI material analysis for work-in-place verification, Pano VI 360° object counts, AI analysis of drone photos (EarthCam Air), AI time-lapse frame selection and the Jobsite Health app (Readiness, Activity and Stress); the partner integrations menu names Procore, Autodesk, DroneDeploy, Esri and Projectmates.Self-contained solar, cellular construction cameras plus a platform for a continuous visual record. Cameras page lists 21 megapixels, up to a 99° field of view and up to 400 m operating distance; the vendor says cameras install in under 30 minutes and system monitoring is free of charge (vendor claims). Platform page lists unlimited timelapses, an automated daily log (weather, personnel, equipment), equipment uptime and weather-impact tracking, health and safety scores, BIM overlays, IoT sensor correlation, Procore and Autodesk integrations, and AI that automatically detects and logs concrete trucks, excavators and personnel. Serves GCs and owners in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Re-read Oct 17, 2026; the AI detection on the platform page moved our label from Not AI-first to AI features added. Re-checked Oct 19, 2026: platform and cameras pages unchanged in substance; the cameras page adds that the hardware achieves over 98% continuous uptime (vendor claim) and uses aluminum and polycarbonate enclosures. Customer quotes (KiwiRail, New Zealand Ministry of Education) are vendor-published. Re-checked Oct 21, 2026: homepage, platform and cameras pages unchanged in substance (solar, cellular cameras installed in under 30 minutes, unlimited timelapses, automated daily log, BIM overlays, IoT correlation, Procore and Autodesk integrations, AI detection of concrete trucks, excavators and personnel). The homepage's claim-dollar examples, 500+ active projects, $50B+ of project value documented and 45+ average users per project are vendor claims and not used.

Where the vendor descriptions differ

  • Who each names: EarthCam's industries menu lists construction first, then retail, mixed-use, energy, industrial storage and warehouses, transportation, education, arenas and stadiums and hotels, plus security and tourism. Timescapes names general contractors and owners and developers, on projects in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
  • Hardware: EarthCam lists ConstructionCam 4K (4K imaging with user-controllable 360° pan-tilt-zoom for live streaming, continuous video recording and panorama archiving), a mobile jobsite trailer and Mobile StreamCam Robotic, a portable interior camera with AI insights and air-quality monitoring, plus certified installation and removal. Timescapes sells self-contained, solar-powered, cellular-connected cameras that it says install in under 30 minutes with no wiring, wifi or specialist; its cameras page lists 21 megapixels, up to a 99° field of view and an operating distance of up to 400 meters, and says ongoing system monitoring is provided free of charge.
  • AI on the imagery: EarthCam says its AI, trained by humans on construction imagery, tags objects in live images; flags safety concerns such as missing PPE, fall risks and workers at height; tracks dumpster fill levels; annotates materials for work-in-place verification; produces 360° object counts through Pano VI; analyzes drone photos through EarthCam Air; and picks time-lapse frames. Its Jobsite Health app reports Readiness, Activity and Stress from hourly visual data. Timescapes describes AI that automatically detects and logs concrete trucks, excavators and personnel, an automated daily log of weather, personnel activity and equipment usage, equipment uptime and weather-impact tracking, and health and safety scores.
  • Links to other tools: EarthCam's Agentic AI page describes Construction AI Connectors built on Model Context Protocol (MCP) that give Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI tools access to its pre-analyzed jobsite data, so a team can ask about progress, deliveries, safety and equipment and assign agents recurring tasks such as safety reviews and delivery summaries. EarthCam also uploads visual data to Procore Daily Logs and Autodesk Build and lists DroneDeploy, Esri and Projectmates integrations. Timescapes integrates with Procore and Autodesk, can share images automatically to project management software, overlays 3D BIM models on site imagery and correlates IoT sensor data with site events.
  • Security: EarthCam's security offer lists AI analytics, continuous edge recording and 24/7 central station monitoring, sold as Command Watch24 (live monitoring, intelligent detection and expert response). The Timescapes pages we read pitch the visual record for progress, payment and delay claims and dispute evidence rather than live security monitoring.
  • Pricing (checked Oct 21, 2026): neither vendor publishes prices. EarthCam's /pricing returns not found and its calls to action are Get Started and Contact us; Timescapes links a /pricing page that returns 404, and its call to action is Request Demo.
  • Not used here: EarthCam's 110+ detection types, live-video views, social followers, years in business and #1 ranking figures and customer quotes; Timescapes' claim-dollar examples, project count, project value, users-per-project and uptime figures and testimonials (vendor claims). Neither tool has been tested by Means & Methods Lab.

Questions to ask in your review

  • What each vendor charges per camera per month, and whether hardware is bought, leased or included
  • How accurate each vendor's AI detections are on your site; neither publishes a test method
  • What jobsite data EarthCam's MCP connectors expose to an outside AI tool, and who controls that access
  • What happens to the image archive and time-lapses when the project ends, for each vendor
  • What did you use it for, on what kind of work and project size?
  • How long did setup and training take, and who on your team did it?
