illumend vs Constrafor

Two ways a general contractor can track subcontractor certificates of insurance with AI in the loop. illumend, from myCOI, is a COI tracking product run by Lumie, an AI that the vendor says contacts partners with requirements, reads every COI and endorsement line by line, makes the compliance decision and runs renewals, with people handling edge cases. Constrafor is a GC risk-management suite (prequalification, COI management, contracts, invoices and payments, diversity tracking) whose COI module adds Insurance CoPilot, an AI risk assistant with ChatGPT built in, to request, tracking and review workflows. Partly like-for-like (our reading): both cover COI requests, review and expirations, but illumend is a COI-only product where the AI decides, and Constrafor is a broader suite where COI is one module and AI assists review. Desk research from vendor sites read Oct 31, 2026; no winner.

What it doesCOI tracking software, branded "illumend, from myCOI", run by "Lumie", an AI the vendor says draws on 16 years of myCOI compliance expertise. The vendor says Lumie contacts partners with the exact requirements, guides them, reads each COI or endorsement line by line (additional insureds, waivers of subrogation, primary and non-contributory, per-project aggregates) against contract requirements and makes the compliance decision, then handles renewals. The FAQ says Lumie raises only the items it cannot resolve to a reviewer, the reviewer can change the call, and more human oversight can be added to a subscription. The homepage contrasts manual tracking and managed services with its approach, where Lumie decides and people handle edge cases. Integrations listed are Procore, Viewpoint, Vista, Yardi and CMiC; industries listed are construction, commercial real estate, retail and franchise, utilities and water, government, manufacturing and transportation. The site offers a COI risk score self-check scorecard and an ROI calculator (not used). Document counts, speed and delay percentages and the founder quote are vendor content and are not used.Construction risk management software for GCs (subcontracts, sub prequalification, insurance certificates) plus invoice financing for subs. For general contractors it covers subcontract management, subcontractor onboarding and prequalification, certificate-of-insurance (COI) tracking, contract, invoice and payment management and diversity tracking; growth solutions for subcontractors include cash-flow tools and Early Pay invoice financing. Its COI page introduces Insurance CoPilot, described as an AI risk assistant for insurance-document review with ChatGPT built in, alongside COI request, tracking and review workflows, an endorsements view, automated reminders and expiration alerts, an interactive sample dashboard, and integrations that import project details from Procore, Autodesk, Sage, Vista, CMiC and others. The COI FAQ says it supports OCIPs and CCIPs, tier-2 subcontractor COIs, and review by your broker or audit team. Its prequalification page describes a single master form subs fill once and GCs can customize, free for subcontractors. Retagged from Not AI-first on Oct 16, 2026 because of Insurance CoPilot; the pages we read do not detail what the CoPilot does. Constrafor also sells Cru, which it calls an AI financial OS for subcontractors, with agents for bookkeeping, bills, cash forecasting, job costing, materials, compliance and COIs; Cru says every agent action is approved by the customer's team before it is final, and lists Early Pay, a Cru Card powered by Ramp, read-only connections to QuickBooks, Sage or Foundation, SOC 2 certification, and surety bonds and P&C insurance marked coming soon (vendor statements). Network counters, financing totals, customer quotes and award mentions are vendor content and are not used.

Where the vendor descriptions differ

  • Who decides: illumend's FAQ says Lumie reviews 100% of COIs and endorsements, makes each decision itself and raises only items it can't resolve to a reviewer, who can step in or change the call; more human oversight can be added to a subscription. Constrafor describes Insurance CoPilot as an AI risk assistant for insurance document review and, as an option, offers to act as an extension of your risk management team with third-party review (vendor statements).
  • What gets checked: illumend says Lumie checks additional insureds, waivers of subrogation, primary and non-contributory and per-project aggregates against contract requirements. • Connections: illumend lists Procore, Viewpoint, Vista, Yardi and CMiC. Constrafor lists Procore, Autodesk, Sage, Vista, CMiC and others, importing project details (vendor statements).

Constrafor publishes fixed annual GC platform prices by annual contract volume: $13,500 a year under $500M, $25,000 for $500M to $1B, $40,000 for $1B to $3B and custom above $3B, with unlimited users and subcontractors and bundle discounts for added solutions.
