Earlytrade vs Speedchain

Two ways a contractor's finance team handles payments, GC-funded early pay for subs versus a commercial card for field spend. Not like-for-like (our reading): Earlytrade lets a general contractor pay approved subcontractor invoices early in exchange for a discount the sub chooses, invoice by invoice, while Speedchain is a construction commercial credit card and spend platform with an AI Receipt Agent, job-cost coding, bill pay and ERP sync. Vendor pages read Oct 20, 2026; desk research, not tested, no winner.

What it doesEarly-payment negotiation for GCs and subs: subs request early payment, and GCs earn a return on their cash. Vendor claims subs get paid 28 days early on average and returns of 4-5x money market rates (vendor claims). Re-read Oct 17, 2026 (through a text reader; direct requests got a bot-check page): the homepage says commercial GCs with significant subcontractor spend use Earlytrade for 4-5x money market returns and can increase margin by 12%, and that subs requesting early payment get paid 28 days early on average (vendor claims). Its subcontractor page says subs see invoice statuses and estimated payment dates, choose invoice by invoice whether to request early payment and set their own discount offer rates, keep submitting invoices the same way, pay nothing to use the portal beyond the discount they choose, and put up no security; the homepage says GCs keep control of their cash and payments. The pages we read do not describe AI. Re-checked Oct 19, 2026: (homepage and subcontractor page read through a text reader; direct requests still got a bot-check page) unchanged in substance; the subcontractor FAQ adds that subs are paid the same way as before, only sooner if they opt in, and a customer CFO quoted on the homepage describes the discount as auction-based rather than contractually obligated, and another says Earlytrade handled onboarding of the GC's subcontractors (vendor-published quotes). The pages we read still do not describe AI. Re-checked Oct 20, 2026: (homepage and subcontractor page rendered directly in a headless browser this time) unchanged in substance; the subcontractor FAQ still says the portal is free, invoices are submitted as before and no security is required, and the site offers a margin calculator and US, UK and Australia regional sites. The pages we read still do not describe AI.Commercial credit card built for construction that ties field purchases to receipts and job costs. Features listed: an AI Receipt Agent (snap a photo, AI reads the vendor and amount, tap to approve), real-time job costing, card management, budget alerts, dynamic spend controls at the point of sale, and ERP sync of approved transactions. Re-read Oct 17, 2026: the homepage describes a cardholder getting a text after each purchase and sending a receipt, AI reading the vendor, amount and job code for approval, and approved transactions syncing to the ERP (unchanged). Further pages read Oct 17, 2026: the integrations page lists Sage 300 CRE, QuickBooks Online and Desktop, Sage Intacct, Acumatica, Viewpoint Spectrum and Viewpoint Vista; the expense management page lists coding by GL code, project, cost code, cost type and vendor, region and merchant-category limits, and an English or Spanish interface; the site also lists Bill Pay (card, ACH or check payments with approval routing) and fuel-card features (vehicle ID, odometer, gallons; elevated rebate at 19,000+ participating stations, vendor claim). The FAQ describes a Mastercard World Elite commercial card; the footer says it is issued by Community Federal Savings Bank. Re-checked Oct 19, 2026: homepage, FAQ and integrations page unchanged in substance (same AI Receipt Agent, ERP list and free-to-use FAQ answer). Re-checked Oct 20, 2026: homepage and FAQ unchanged in substance (AI Receipt Agent, real-time job costing, and a Mastercard World Elite commercial card issued by Community Federal Savings Bank).

Where the vendor descriptions differ

  • Whose money moves: Earlytrade describes the GC funding early payments from its own cash and keeping control of its cash and payments, with subs requesting early payment on approved invoices and setting their own discount offer rates. Speedchain issues a Mastercard World Elite commercial card (physical and virtual cards; the footer names Community Federal Savings Bank as issuer), and its Bill Pay sends vendor payments by card, ACH or check with approval routing.
  • Who uses it day to day: Earlytrade's subcontractor portal shows invoice statuses and estimated payment dates; subs keep submitting invoices the same way and are paid the same way, only sooner if they opt in. Speedchain's users are cardholders in the field (a text after each purchase, a receipt photo, a suggested vendor, amount and job code) and the AP and finance team that approves and posts the transactions.
  • AI: Speedchain lists an AI Receipt Agent that reads the vendor and amount from a receipt photo and suggests the job code for one-tap approval (vendor statement). The Earlytrade pages we read do not describe AI. Tags stay as listed: Speedchain AI features added to an established product, Earlytrade Not AI-first.
  • Controls: Speedchain lists coding by GL code, project, cost code, cost type and vendor, region and merchant-category limits, maximum monthly and per-transaction spend per cardholder, approval before posting, budget alerts and an English or Spanish interface. Earlytrade's pages describe the GC keeping control of its cash and payments and the sub deciding, invoice by invoice, whether to request early payment and at what discount; no security or extra credentials are required from subs.
  • Integrations: Speedchain lists Sage 300 CRE, QuickBooks Online and Desktop, Sage Intacct, Acumatica, Viewpoint Spectrum and Viewpoint Vista, plus project and job-code sync from the project management or ERP system. Earlytrade says it works alongside popular construction technology, but the pages we read do not name specific systems in text.
  • Pricing (checked Oct 20, 2026): Earlytrade publishes no GC pricing (earlytrade.com/pricing returns not found; Request Demo); the subcontractor portal is free and the only cost to a sub is the discount it chooses to offer (vendor statement). Speedchain's FAQ says it is free-to-use for businesses of any size and the footer says additional fees may include late-payment fees or other services; /pricing returns not found and the site does not say how Speedchain is paid.
  • Not used here: Earlytrade's return-versus-money-market, days-early, margin-increase and time-to-launch figures, ENR ranking lines and customer quotes; Speedchain's global-leader line, customer quotes, time, money and fraud-saving lines and fuel rebate claim. Neither tool has been tested by Means & Methods Lab.
