Clearstory vs SuperConstruct
Two tools that handle change orders, from different starting points. Not like-for-like (our reading): Clearstory is a change order and T&M network shared between GCs, subs and owners, with AI agents in beta; SuperConstruct is a payments-centered platform whose change orders come from schedule of values changes next to pay apps and lien waivers. Desk research from vendor pages read Oct 20, 2026; not tested, no winner.
In short: Clearstory (Change orders & T&M tags; free option; paid prices not listed) vs SuperConstruct (AI pay apps, SOV & change orders; vendor publishes prices). Facts last checked Oct 20, 2026. No winner declared; not tested.

| What it does | Change order platform (formerly Extracker) for GCs, specialty contractors and owners, with signed digital T&M tags and shared COR logs. It also lists change order request (COR) logs shared between parties, rate libraries, allowances and contingencies, backcharges, analytics (days aging, ball in court) and ERP/PM integrations. Re-read Oct 17, 2026: the Clearstory AI page lists four agents, including two marked Open Beta: the COR Pricing Agent (send a voice note, attach a takeoff or upload your own priced estimate; it drafts the COR and pulls rates from the project library, and you edit before it is sent) and the T&M Tag Agent (transcribes a voice note, matches work against the project rate library, which the vendor says can exceed 10,000 line items in heavy civil, electrical and mechanical, and drafts a tag ready for signature). The page also lists a COR Review Agent (Closed Beta) and a Change Notification Agent (beta; the page labels it both Closed and Open Beta). Our Oct 16 note that these two agents were no longer listed was wrong (most likely the result of an incomplete text extract): re-checked Oct 17, 2026, the page lists all four, as did a Sept 20, 2026 archived copy. Pricing still lists Bulk AI Import and AI COR Reason Categories. Homepage cites 17k+ contractors on the network, $4.8B in CORs shared monthly and 7+ hours saved per person weekly (vendor claims). Re-checked Oct 19, 2026: the pricing FAQ and the Clearstory AI page both say customer data is never used to train public or private AI models (vendor statement). The AI page adds that the T&M Tag Agent has built-in Spanish-to-English translation and prompts for anything missing, the COR Review Agent validates rates against approved schedules and confirms backup documentation, the Change Notification Agent identifies impacted trades and flags missing information to raise with the architect, and account owners, admins and PMs can turn AI off for the company or for individual projects; beta labels unchanged. Re-checked Oct 20, 2026: the Clearstory AI page still lists the same four agents with the same beta labels, the T&M Tag Agent's built-in Spanish-to-English translation and the company- and project-level AI controls, and now groups a Bulk AI Import Agent and an AI Reason Categories Agent under "Beyond the Four Agents"; the homepage figures above are unchanged (vendor claims). | Construction management platform centered on payments: AIA pay apps from the SOV, lien waivers, ACH payments and change orders. The vendor calls it AI-powered and built on an "AI-native data spine"; features listed: AIA G702/G703 pay apps generated from the live schedule of values (retainage, stored materials and balance-to-finish calculated), conditional and unconditional lien waivers generated from G702 values, ACH payments, lender-ready bank requisition reports, an AI-assisted SOV workflow that flags inconsistencies before approval, and change orders/change requests auto-generated from SOV changes with cost and schedule impact. SuperConstruct AI is a conversational assistant that answers role-scoped project questions, drafts G702/G703, waivers and change orders, flags planned-vs-actual schedule variance, and runs recurring tasks. Also lists daily logs, RFIs with AI thread summaries, document management, inspections, submittals, and Procore, QuickBooks and ChatGPT integrations. Homepage cites 15,000+ waivers automated, $80M+ in payments processed and approval cycles cut by up to 40%, and names municipal Capital Improvement Programs among users (vendor claims). Re-read Oct 17, 2026 (curl): pricing page still shows $299 per project per month for general contractors, owners, developers and public agencies, unlimited users, and a 30-day free trial; the subcontractor tab is rendered client-side and was not re-read. Re-checked Oct 19, 2026: homepage unchanged in substance (AI-native data spine, 15,000+ waivers, $80M+ payments, approval cycles cut by up to 40%, municipal Capital Improvement Programs; vendor claims); the pricing page also says teams typically save 30 to 40% of manual work (vendor claim). Re-read Oct 20, 2026: homepage unchanged in substance (connected change orders and change requests from SOV changes, AI-assisted SOV, AI assistant; vendor figures as above). |
| Who it's for | General contractors, self-performing GCs, specialty contractors (trades listed include concrete, excavation, electrical, mechanical, roofing, firestop, plumbing, structural steel) and project owners; heavy civil is listed. | Cities and public agencies, general contractors, developers/owners, subcontractors and lenders (vendor wording). |
| Pricing (as publicly stated) | Basic is free for all stakeholders (5 T&M tags and 5 CORs per month, unlimited projects, mobile app, Bulk AI Import). Standard (unlimited CORs and T&M tags, change notifications, analytics, rate management, custom AI COR reason categories) and Professional (API, integrations, allowances, multi-office) through sales. (Pricing checked Oct 16, 2026; unchanged on Oct 19, 2026. The pricing FAQ says Standard and Professional carry a per-user fee plus a platform fee per project, licensed at the project, office or company level; first-level stakeholders you invite get Plus free on those plans, and a free managed pilot is offered.) Re-checked Oct 20, 2026: Basic still free with 5 T&M tags and 5 CORs a month; Standard and Professional still through sales; FAQ unchanged. | Vendor-listed pricing (pricing page rendered in a headless browser, Oct 16, 2026), monthly subscription with unlimited users, support and storage: general contractors, owners, developers and public agencies $299 per project per month; subcontractors $299 per month for up to 5 projects. 30-day free trial, no credit card. Confirm current terms with the vendor. (Checked Oct 16, 2026.) Re-checked Oct 19, 2026: the general contractor, owner, developer and public agency plan is still $299 per project per month with unlimited users and a 30-day free trial with no credit card, and now lists exclusive early access to new features; the subcontractor tab is rendered client-side and was not re-read. Re-checked Oct 20, 2026: $299 per project per month, unlimited users, 30-day free trial with no credit card, unchanged; the pricing FAQ says there is no per-user fee. |

Where the vendor descriptions differ
- Where change orders start: Clearstory's COR Pricing Agent (open beta) drafts a priced change order request from a voice note, a takeoff or your own priced estimate and pulls rates from the project library, and you edit before it is sent; its T&M Tag Agent (open beta) drafts a T&M tag from a voice note with photos, with built-in Spanish-to-English translation. SuperConstruct says change orders and change requests are auto-generated from schedule of values changes, with cost and schedule impact tracking, e-signatures and audit history.
- Review side: Clearstory lists a COR Review Agent (closed beta) that checks incoming CORs against your checklist and approved rate schedules, and a Change Notification Agent (labelled both closed and open beta) for design changes. SuperConstruct describes an AI-assisted SOV workflow that flags inconsistencies before approval and an AI assistant that drafts G702/G703, lien waivers and change orders and gives role-scoped answers.
- Scope: Clearstory focuses on change management (shared COR and T&M logs, rate libraries, allowances, backcharges, analytics) and lists ERP and PM integrations. SuperConstruct centers on payments (AIA pay apps from the live SOV, conditional and unconditional lien waivers, ACH payments) and also lists daily logs, RFIs, submittals, inspections and Procore, QuickBooks and ChatGPT integrations.
- AI controls: Clearstory says account owners can turn AI off for the company and admins and PMs for individual projects, and that customer data is never used to train public or private AI models (vendor statements). We did not find a comparable statement on the SuperConstruct homepage or pricing page read today.
- Who it is aimed at: Clearstory names general contractors, self-performing GCs, specialty contractors and owners, with heavy civil listed. SuperConstruct names general contractors, subcontractors, owners and developers, cities and public agencies, and lenders.
- Pricing (checked Oct 20, 2026): Clearstory Basic is free for all stakeholders (5 T&M tags and 5 CORs a month, Bulk AI Import); Standard and Professional go through sales with a per-user fee plus a platform fee per project. SuperConstruct lists $299 per project per month for general contractors, owners, developers and public agencies, with unlimited users and a 30-day free trial with no credit card; its subcontractor tab was not read.
- Not used here: both vendors' homepage volume and time-saved figures, approval-speed claims and customer quotes and reviews. Neither tool has been tested by Means & Methods Lab.
