DroneDeploy vs Reconstruct

Two reality capture platforms that turn site imagery into progress records. DroneDeploy is a drone and 360 capture platform whose Progress AI add-on reads captures to report percent complete and trade status by location, without needing a schedule or BIM model. Reconstruct builds measurable 2D plans and 3D models from smartphone, 360 camera and drone footage, overlays designs, and ties progress to the schedule, with a bidirectional Oracle Primavera Cloud integration. Desk research from vendor pages read Oct 25, 2026; not tested, no winner.

What it doesReality capture platform combining drones (including docked drones), 360° cameras, robots, fixed cameras, and smartphones. Aerial plans cover maps, 3D models, design overlays, and earthworks cut/fill; Ground plans cover 360 walks, BIM/drawing overlays, and phone-based 3D scans. Add-ons include Progress AI (progress reports from 360 walks and aerial imagery, no 3D model required) and Safety AI (OSHA risk detection). Integrations: Procore, Autodesk, Esri, and others. Vendor says it is SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001 certified and is used on 3 million sites in 180 countries (vendor claims). Procore announced an agreement to acquire DroneDeploy on July 29, 2026, and its Sept. 9, 2026 SEC filing says it completed the acquisition for about $845 million in cash. Re-read Oct 19, 2026: the pricing page add-ons now also list Dock Automation, Robotic Automation and DroneDeploy Firewall, and it claims ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type 2 and NIST 800-53 compliance (vendor claims). Re-checked Oct 21, 2026: the homepage now leads with visual AI and robotics across all sites (360 cameras, robots and drones, with AI agents surfacing schedule or safety risks) and progress, quality (visual defect detection ranked by severity) and safety use cases; the pricing page plan lineup (Unified, Aerial Pro, Aerial, Ground Pro, Ground) and add-ons (Progress AI, Safety AI, Dock Automation, Robotic Automation, DroneDeploy Firewall) are unchanged. The ROI calculator's savings estimates, site counts and customer quotes are vendor content and not used. Re-checked Oct 22, 2026: the homepage now carries an Attending Groundbreak? banner, and the platform menu lists Earthworks AI alongside Safety AI and Progress AI, plus a Data on Demand service; the pricing page plan lineup and add-ons are unchanged. Re-checked Oct 23, 2026: the Groundbreak banner is gone; the homepage still leads with visual AI and robotics across all sites, and the menu still lists Safety AI, Progress AI, Earthworks AI and Data on Demand; the pricing page plan lineup and add-ons are unchanged. Customer quotes and site counts not used. Re-checked Oct 25, 2026: homepage and pricing page unchanged in substance (visual AI and robotics across all sites; Safety AI, Progress AI and Earthworks AI, Dock Automation, Robotics, Industrial Inspection and Data on Demand in the menu; plan lineup and add-ons unchanged). Customer quotes, savings figures and site counts are vendor content and are not used.Reality mapping platform for remote quality control, progress monitoring, and facilities assessment. Vendor says it turns standard or 360 photos and video from smartphones, 360 cameras, and drones into measurable 2D floor plans, orthophotos, 3D point clouds, and mesh models, automatically positions footage in space and over time, overlays 2D and 3D design against reality (it calls the overlay technology patented), and adds 4D BIM visualization once a schedule and plans are uploaded. Progress features listed: schedule import via XML or bi-directional integrations with Oracle Primavera Cloud and Aconex, per-activity percent complete and root cause of delay with transcribed voice notes and annotated pictures, pins on issues, and on-demand progress reports. An Oracle Construction and Engineering executive is quoted on the integration with Oracle's platform. The pages we read describe reality mapping and photogrammetry rather than AI, so we tag it Not AI-first. Re-checked Oct 19, 2026: still no AI described; the navigation now leads with a Visual Command Center for seeing and measuring the structure remotely, including online as-builts that rewind construction to see inside sealed walls, and the reality-mapping page lists 360 cameras, drones, phones, Matterport and laser scanning as capture sources. Re-checked Oct 21, 2026: homepage unchanged in substance (photogrammetry and reality mapping from smartphones, 360 cameras and drones; 2D and 3D design overlay; progress monitoring; pins and collaboration; schedule integration with 4D BIM visualization; online as-builts in the Visual Command Center); still no AI described, so the tag stays. ROI percentages and customer quotes are vendor content and not used. Re-checked Oct 22, 2026: homepage and product pages unchanged in substance (photogrammetry from smartphones, 360 cameras and drones, with Matterport and laser scanning also listed; design overlay; XML or Oracle Primavera Cloud and Aconex schedule integration; 4D BIM; online as-builts); still no AI described. Several pages show unfinished template text ('Something Powerful / Tell The Reader More'), noted only. Re-checked Oct 23, 2026: homepage, pricing and progress-monitoring pages unchanged in substance (Visual Command Center with online as-builts; XML or Oracle Primavera Cloud and Aconex schedule integration); still no AI described, and the unfinished template text ('Something Powerful / Tell The Reader More') is still shown, noted only. Re-checked Oct 24, 2026: site unchanged (Visual Command Center, online as-builts, reality capture tied to schedule); still no AI features described. Re-checked Oct 25, 2026: homepage, pricing, progress-monitoring and schedule-integration pages unchanged in substance (reality mapping from smartphones, 360 cameras and drones; design overlay; schedule import by XML or bidirectional Oracle Primavera Cloud and Aconex integrations; on-demand progress reports; online as-builts); still no AI described, and the unfinished template text ('Something Powerful / Tell The Reader More') is still on the homepage, noted only.

Where the vendor descriptions differ

  • How progress gets measured: DroneDeploy says Progress AI uses its own visual intelligence to detect installed work, sequencing and changes from drone flights and 360 walks, and returns percent complete by location, trade status by area and installed work across 80+ trade types, with no schedule or BIM model required (a model can be added). Reconstruct's progress page says teams update each schedule activity, including percent complete and root cause of delay, with transcribed voice notes and annotated photos, then generate on-demand reports; its pages do not describe AI detection of progress.
  • AI: DroneDeploy markets visual AI across its platform (Progress AI, Safety AI for OSHA risk detection, Earthworks AI). Reconstruct's pages describe photogrammetry, a reality mapping engine and patented design overlay, but no AI features; we tag it Not AI-first.
  • Capture: DroneDeploy covers drones (including docked drones), ground robots, 360 cameras, fixed cameras and smartphones, with 3D scans on iPhone or iPad on its Ground Pro plan, and a Data on Demand service network that captures sites for teams without pilots or hardware. Reconstruct says virtually anyone on site can capture with a smartphone, 360 camera or drone, and its earlier-read reality mapping page also lists Matterport and laser scanning as sources.
  • Schedule and design: Reconstruct imports schedules by XML file or through bidirectional integrations with Oracle Primavera Cloud and Aconex, offers 4D BIM sequencing, overlays 2D and 3D designs on reality, and keeps dated online as-builts so you can rewind to see inside sealed walls. DroneDeploy's Ground plan lists BIM and drawing overlays, its Aerial Pro plan tracks earthworks cut/fill against design, and its pricing page lists sharing with Procore, Autodesk Build, BIM 360, Esri and cloud storage services.
  • Pricing (checked Oct 25, 2026): DroneDeploy publishes two single-seat plans (Flight & Analysis $4,188 billed annually, single admin user, ground capture processing not included; Ag Lite $1,908 billed annually), quotes its Unified, Aerial Pro, Aerial, Ground Pro and Ground team plans, sells Progress AI as an add-on without a listed price (the Progress AI page also offers early access requests), and offers a 14-day free trial. Reconstruct shows no figures; its pricing page offers personalized pricing for one project or hundreds.
  • Not like-for-like: DroneDeploy leads with automated detection of work in place across many trades; Reconstruct leads with a measurable, schedule-linked digital twin that people inspect and update. Owners and GCs on Primavera Cloud may weigh the schedule link; teams that fly drones daily may weigh automated capture and detection.
  • Not used here: DroneDeploy's site counts, trade-coverage percentage, ROI calculator, savings claims and customer quotes, and Reconstruct's ROI percentages and customer quotes (vendor content).
