HCSS HeavyJob vs Rhumbix
Two field data systems that turn crew time, quantities and T&M work into job-cost information. HCSS HeavyJob is built for self-performing civil, infrastructure and utility contractors and sits inside the HCSS suite with HeavyBid, and HCSS now includes a natural-language AI assistant in current subscriptions. Rhumbix is a field-first workforce management platform for trade contractors, self-performing GCs and owners, which Autodesk has signed a definitive agreement to acquire; its pages do not describe AI. Desk research from vendor pages read Oct 26, 2026; not tested, no winner.
In short: HCSS HeavyJob (Heavy civil field data, daily logs & job costing; no public prices (quote / sales)) vs Rhumbix (Field timekeeping, production & daily reports; no public prices (quote / sales)). Facts last checked Oct 26, 2026. No winner declared; not tested.

| Sheet row | HCSS HeavyJob | Rhumbix |
|---|---|---|
| Category | Heavy civil field data, daily logs & job costing | Field timekeeping, production & daily reports |
| AI role (our label) | AI features added to established product | Not AI-first |
| What it does | Field data and job-cost software for self-perform civil, infrastructure and utility contractors: time cards, production and dailies. Features listed: digital time cards, quantity/production tracking, job costing and budget forecasting, material tracking, map view, T&M billing, bulk work-order import, pay items, daily field reports (DFR) with customizable templates and inspector/owner sign-off, a daily log for management review of activities, photos and progress, custom construction forms, and payroll/accounting export (Sage, Viewpoint, QuickBooks named). Works offline and syncs later. The page says production data feeds back to HeavyBid for future bids, and that most customers are operational within 90 days. Figures on the page (4,000+ contractors, 128,000 active users, "95% of HeavyJob projects close within budget") are vendor claims. The product page we read Oct 16, 2026 does not describe AI features. Re-checked Oct 19, 2026: HCSS's AI page says the HCSS AI assistant, which HCSS calls the first natural-language AI assistant built for civil construction, is active and included in current subscriptions. In HeavyJob it answers questions about job costs, crew, equipment, budget performance and job variance, can generate charts, searches and navigates the platform, answers questions about uploaded SOPs, contracts and safety documents, and condenses days of HeavyJob daily digest data into a short narrative. HCSS says answers are grounded in your own data with sources, existing permissions apply, your data is not used to train AI models, and a privacy mode deletes questions and responses after each session. HCSS AI Studio and pre-built agents (a production analyst for over-budget cost codes, an estimate builder and a voice-driven field agent that drafts daily reports) are marked Coming Fall 2026, in beta first and then a paid upgrade. Because this AI is added to the established product, we now tag HeavyJob AI features added. Re-checked Oct 20, 2026: the product page feature list, offline capture with later sync, payroll and accounting export and the within-90-days rollout statement are unchanged, and it adds a dedicated implementation specialist per customer; the over-40,000-crews figure recorded Oct 19 no longer appears on the product page, so it is dropped here. HCSS's AI page still says the assistant is included in current subscriptions and that AI Studio and the pre-built agents arrive in beta later this year and then become a paid upgrade; it now also lists HCSS AI Core, a data foundation across the platform, as Coming Fall 2026, and says confidence scores show where the AI is and is not certain, with every output open to review and override. Re-checked Oct 22, 2026: the product page is unchanged in substance (time cards, production, job costing, DFR, daily log, forms, pay items, offline capture with later sync, Sage, Viewpoint and QuickBooks export, a dedicated implementation specialist, most customers operational within 90 days). HCSS's AI page is unchanged in substance: the assistant is included in current subscriptions; AI Core, AI Studio and the production analyst, estimate builder and field agents are Coming Fall 2026, in beta first and then a paid upgrade; it adds that nothing the agents prepare finalizes without the user's approval, and repeats that data is never used to train AI models and that HeavyJob permissions apply. The contractor count and support quotes are vendor material and not used. Re-checked Oct 24, 2026: the product page is unchanged in substance (Sage, Viewpoint and QuickBooks export, a dedicated implementation specialist, most customers fully operational within 90 days). HCSS's AI page is unchanged in substance: the assistant is active and included in current subscriptions; AI Core and AI Studio are Coming Fall 2026, with the production analyst, estimate builder and field agents in beta later this year and then a paid upgrade; nothing finalizes without the user's approval and confidence scores flag uncertainty; data is isolated to each company and not used to train AI models, and a privacy mode deletes questions and responses after each session (vendor statements). Re-checked Oct 26, 2026: the product page is unchanged in substance (time cards for crew hours, equipment hours and quantities, job costing and forecasting, T&M, work-order import, pay items, customizable daily reports with inspector or owner sign-off, payroll and accounting export naming Sage, Viewpoint and QuickBooks, a dedicated implementation specialist, most customers fully operational within 90 days). HCSS's AI page is unchanged in substance (assistant included in current subscriptions; AI Core and AI Studio Coming Fall 2026; production analyst, estimate builder and voice-driven field agent in beta later this year, then a paid upgrade). | Field-first workforce management platform for trade contractors, self-perform divisions and GCs, covering timecards, production, T&M and dailies. It lists payroll-ready timecards, cost-coded production tracking against budget, time & materials (out-of-scope work) tracking from submission to approval, and daily field reports that bring daily and weekly reports into one tool, with configurable workflows and analytics. The vendor says many field forms can be trained and deployed in as little as 2 weeks and cites RG Construction saving over 200 work hours each week (vendor claims). The homepage we read Oct 16, 2026 does not describe AI features. Autodesk said on March 31, 2026 that it had signed a definitive agreement to acquire Rhumbix. Re-read Oct 19, 2026: the homepage still shows the Autodesk acquisition banner and adds a case-study headline about a specialty drywall contractor saving up to 20 hours a week on timekeeping (vendor claim); it still does not describe AI features. Re-checked Oct 20, 2026: the homepage still shows the Autodesk acquisition banner and still does not describe AI features; its navigation now lists change order tracking, health and safety reporting and a no-code Data Explorer alongside timekeeping, production, T&M and daily reports. Re-checked Oct 22, 2026: the homepage still shows the Autodesk acquisition banner and still does not describe AI. Its Packages page (read Oct 22, 2026) lists Essential (Timekeeping or Time & Materials), Plus (adding daily construction reporting, labor compliance reporting and up to 10 active customer forms) and Advanced (enterprise workflows, controls and support); features include guest-mode external approvals of T&M tickets by email or text, digital signatures, offline mode, Field Analytix, a T&M dashboard marked Coming Soon, API access and single sign-on on higher tiers, and a SOC 2 Type 2 attestation. The over 1,000,000 projects line and customer savings figures are vendor claims and are not used. Re-checked Oct 24, 2026: the homepage still shows the Autodesk acquisition banner and still does not describe AI. The Packages page has moved to rhumbix.com/pricing (the old /packages address now returns 404). It still lists Essential (Timekeeping or Time & Materials), Plus and Advanced; its plan table shows a Compliance Reporting Bundle (daily construction reports, toolbox talks, job hazard analysis and pre-task planning), active customer forms capped by plan (up to 3 or up to 10), some items such as Data Explorer and single sign-on as add-ons on some plans, and the T&M dashboard still marked Coming Soon. The page states SOC 2 Type 2 with encryption in transit and at rest, and says a dedicated field operations manager runs implementation. The over 1,000,000 projects line and case-study savings figures are vendor claims and not used. Re-checked Oct 26, 2026: the homepage still shows the Autodesk acquisition banner and still does not describe AI; the pricing page is unchanged in substance (Essential, Plus and Advanced; Compliance Reporting Bundle; T&M dashboard still marked Coming Soon; SOC 2 Type 2). The projects figure and case-study savings are still not used. |

Where the vendor descriptions differ
- Who it is for: HCSS says HeavyJob is designed for self-performing civil, infrastructure and utility contractors. Rhumbix speaks to trade contractors, self-performing general contractors and owners with capital programs, and its case studies include specialty drywall and painting contractors.
- Field capture: HeavyJob lists time cards for crew hours, equipment hours and quantities, quantity tracking tied to worker productivity and equipment use, customizable daily reports with inspector or owner sign-off, custom digital forms, bulk work-order import and pay items. Rhumbix lists crew or individual time entry with clock-in, clock-out and kiosk mode, installed-quantity and labor productivity tracking, daily reports built from timecards, change order and T&M tracking, and digitized custom forms.
- T&M and change work: both track work billed at T&M rates. Rhumbix says it tracks out-of-scope work from submission to approval and aims to eliminate late and lost T&M tags, and its pricing page still marks a T&M dashboard Coming Soon; HCSS says HeavyJob helps project managers document T&M work and change orders to speed up invoicing (vendor statements).
- AI: HCSS says its AI assistant, included in current subscriptions, answers questions in HeavyJob about job costs, crew, equipment, budget performance and variance, and condenses daily digest data into a short narrative; a production analyst, an estimate builder and a voice-driven field agent that drafts daily reports are slated for beta later this year and then a paid upgrade. The Rhumbix pages we read do not describe AI features.
- Connections: HeavyJob feeds production data back to HeavyBid for future bids and exports approved time cards to payroll and accounting, naming Sage, Viewpoint and QuickBooks. Rhumbix describes connected workflows and a no-code report and dashboard builder (Data Explorer, an add-on on some plans).
- Ownership and roll-out: Rhumbix shows an Autodesk acquisition banner on every page we read; how it will fit with Autodesk Construction Cloud is not described. HCSS says most HeavyJob customers are fully operational within 90 days and assigns a dedicated implementation specialist; Rhumbix says a dedicated field operations manager runs implementation.
- Pricing (checked Oct 26, 2026): neither publishes prices. HeavyJob is by demo request; Rhumbix lists Essential, Plus and Advanced packages, each Contact Us.
- Not used here: HCSS's contractor and user counts and customer quotes, and Rhumbix's projects figure, drywall case-study hours and ROI calculator (vendor content).
