eSUB vs Procore Pay

Two pay-app tools seen from opposite sides of the same bill. Only partly like-for-like (our reading): eSUB is project management software for commercial subcontractors, with T&M tickets, change orders and SOV-based progress billing that generates AIA G702/G703 pay apps, while Procore Pay is Procore's payment product where subcontractors submit pay apps to GCs inside Procore and lien waivers are exchanged at payment. AI role (our label)Not AI-firstNot AI-first
What it doesCloud and mobile project management platform built for commercial subcontractors, with daily reports, T&M tickets, change orders and billing. Trades named include electrical, HVAC, concrete, mechanical, masonry, plumbing and structural steel. Features listed: daily reports; time and materials (T&M) tickets with customer signatures captured on a tablet or phone, photo and document attachments, office sync and a centralized log of ticket status, costs and related change orders; change order tracking with lump-sum or category-based quotes and line items; custom access permissions; purchase orders, job costing, RFIs, submittals, field notes, drawings and document control; and a QuickBooks Online integration. The Progress Billing page describes a schedule of values tied to contract value that updates as change orders are approved, line-item percent-complete, work-in-place, stored-materials and retainage calculations, AIA G702/G703 pay applications generated from the SOV (or built manually), and a dashboard of billed, approved, outstanding and disputed amounts across projects. eSUB also promotes Fusion by eSUB, a connected jobsite tool linking field staff to the back office and GCs. The pages we read do not describe AI features; productivity and revenue figures from the vendor's customer survey are not used.Procore's construction payment product, where subcontractors submit pay apps and handle payments inside Procore, not a separate portal. Page lists a payment-readiness checklist view of requirements per invoice, invoice review and preparation for payment, a library of pay requirements and lien waiver templates, digital signature collection, automated lien waiver exchange with signed unconditional waivers staged and released only at the time of payment, and disbursement approval chains built with Procore Workflows with an audit trail of who reviewed and approved each disbursement. Integrations named on the page include Sage, QuickBooks Connector, Viewpoint and MyCOI, and it points to Procore's 500+ integrations and apps. The Pay page itself does not describe AI; it links to Procore AI agents as a separate capability (see our Procore AI entry), so we tag Procore Pay Not AI-first. Customer time-saved quotes are vendor-published and are not used.

Where the vendor descriptions differ

  • What each is: eSUB is a cloud and mobile platform built for commercial trade contractors (electrical, HVAC, concrete, mechanical, masonry, plumbing and structural steel named), covering daily reports, T&M tickets, change orders, purchase orders, job costing, RFIs, submittals, drawings and document control. Procore Pay is the payments product inside Procore, built for GCs running projects in Procore and the subcontractors who bill them.
  • Building the pay app: eSUB's Progress Billing page describes a schedule of values tied to contract value that updates as change orders are approved, line-item percent complete, work in place, stored materials and retainage, and AIA G702/G703 pay apps generated from the SOV or built by hand. Procore says subcontractors submit pay apps inside Procore, not a separate portal, and that the GC sees a payment-readiness checklist of requirements for each invoice.
  • Waivers and getting paid: Procore Pay lists a library of pay requirements and lien waiver templates, digital signatures, automated lien waiver exchange with signed unconditional waivers held and released only at payment, and disbursement approval chains built with Procore Workflows with an audit trail. eSUB's pages describe a dashboard of billed, approved, outstanding and disputed amounts across projects; the pages we read do not describe eSUB handling lien waivers or moving money.
  • Integrations (vendor statements): eSUB names a QuickBooks Online integration and promotes Fusion by eSUB for linking field staff with the back office and GCs. Procore Pay names Sage, QuickBooks Connector, Viewpoint and MyCOI, and points to Procore's 500+ integrations and apps. Whether an eSUB pay app can be submitted into a GC's Procore Pay workflow is not stated on the pages we read; ask both vendors.
  • AI: Neither product page describes AI features, so both are tagged Not AI-first. Procore's AI agents are a separate Procore capability (see the Procore AI entry).
  • Pricing (read Nov 3, 2026): Neither publishes prices. eSUB offers Talk to Sales and Get a Demo. Procore's pricing page says it charges an upfront annual fee by product based on Annual Construction Volume, with no dollar figures. See each tool page for detail.
  • Not used here: eSUB's customer-survey productivity and revenue figures and Procore's customer time-saved quotes (vendor material). Facts for both tools come from vendor websites (desk research).

Questions to ask in your review

  • Whether a subcontractor on eSUB can push its SOV and pay app into a GC's Procore Pay workflow without re-keying
  • Whether Procore Pay charges the subcontractor anything to get paid through it
  • What eSUB costs at your user count and what Procore Pay adds to your Procore fee
  • What did you use it for, on what kind of work and project size?
  • How long did setup and training take, and who on your team did it?
  • What does it cost you in practice, compared with what the sales call said?
