Buildots vs Oculo

Two AI-first progress-tracking platforms that compare what is built on site against the plan, both sold by demo with no public prices. Buildots describes itself as a construction intelligence platform for executives, owners, project teams and CM services, connecting BIM, schedule, site and workforce data, with a local setup team, an add-on for fully managed site captures and a separate workforce product, Buildots Field. Oculo turns passive 360° site walks into AI visual progress updates and forecasts by project, area, unit and activity, and says BIM is not required. Partly like-for-like (our reading): both track progress against plan from site captures, but Buildots leans toward portfolio-level controls and managed service while Oculo leans toward 360° visual records and progress from routine walks. Desk research from vendor sites read Oct 31, 2026; no winner.

What it doesConstruction intelligence platform that compares what's built on site to the plan (even if the model is incomplete) and flags deviations and at-risk activities that could put the delivery date at risk. It adds trade/contractor management, workforce visibility, site documentation, payment-application support and portfolio reporting by connecting BIM, schedule, site and workforce data; the vendor says a local team helps set up on site. Products: Buildots (AI construction intelligence), Buildots Field (workforce intelligence, safety and logistics) and the Capture Services add-on for fully managed site captures. The Buildots Field page says it is powered by Genda, which Buildots says it acquired in October 2025, and describes QR-code worker enrolment, Bluetooth beacons (location only while workers are on site) and one app for hoist calls, delivery booking, access control, permits, safety orientations and hazard reports; it says a fully integrated Buildots Field app is on track for general availability in Q4 2026 (vendor statements). Project types listed include commercial, multifamily, healthcare, industrial, education, data centers and airports. Delay-reduction and other outcome figures and customer quotes are vendor claims not used here.Passive 360° site walks turned into AI visual progress tracking and forecasts by project, area, unit and activity, aimed at multi-unit construction teams. Passive 360° walkthroughs are mapped to floor plans and organised over time; AI analyses each walkthrough for progress across floors, units and trades, highlights coordination issues and slowdowns, and produces progress updates the vendor says can support pay apps and hand-off decisions, with forecasts based on weeks of progress data. The FAQ says BIM is not required (floor plans and/or a 3D model are needed for processing, with side-by-side BIM comparison available), capture works without Wi-Fi or GPS including basements and tunnels, supported cameras are Insta360 models (X6 recommended; X5, X4, X3, X2 and One RS 1-Inch also listed) and Ricoh models, cameras can be hired for one-off scans or demos, faces are blurred, and there is no limit on users per project. The site names Autodesk, Procore and Fieldview integrations for creating issues. Case-study outcomes and customer quotes are vendor content and are not used.

Where the vendor descriptions differ

  • Progress against plan: Buildots says it shows what is built and when compared to your plan, gives a view of the entire project even if the model is incomplete, and flags activities and deviations that could put the delivery date at risk. Oculo says its AI assesses progress from your site scans, shows what is done and what is pending, highlights bottlenecks and forecasts what is likely to happen on each project, area, unit and activity from weeks of progress data (vendor statements).
  • Capture: Oculo says you switch on a supported 360° camera (Insta360 X6, X5, X4, X3, X2 or One RS 1-Inch, or Ricoh Theta X) on a routine site walk, footage is mapped to your drawings automatically, it does not depend on Wi-Fi, GPS or signal on site (footage is uploaded after the scan), and it can hire cameras for one-off scans or demos. Buildots offers Capture Services as an add-on for fully managed site captures, and says a local team helps set up on site and stays through the build (vendor statements).
  • BIM and data: Oculo's FAQ says BIM is not required (floor plans and/or a 3D model are needed to process footage) and that it can show the captures beside a BIM model. Buildots says it connects BIM, schedule, site data and workforce insights into one system (vendor statements).
  • Beyond progress: Buildots lists contractor and trade management, site documentation for disputes, portfolio reporting and payment applications, plus Buildots Field (powered by Genda) for workforce location by Bluetooth beacons, hoist calls, deliveries, permits and hazard reports, with an integrated Buildots Field app said to be due for general availability in Q4 2026. Oculo stresses a 360° building history for claims and variations, remote site triage, face blurring and no limit on users per project (vendor statements).
  • AI (our reading): both are tagged AI-first.
  • Pricing (checked Oct 31, 2026): neither publishes prices. Buildots' calls to action are Get a demo and /pricing returns not found; Oculo's are Book a demo and Contact Us, and /en-us/pricing returns not found.
  • Not used here: Buildots' delay-reduction claim, Buildots Field's evacuation, hoist-hours and savings figures, Oculo's records, cash-flow, rework and site-visit figures, and both vendors' customer quotes, case-study outcomes and logos (vendor material). Facts for both tools come from vendor websites (desk research).

  • How each maps progress to your schedule activities and model, and what happens when the model is incomplete
  • Contract terms and pricing for your project size
  • What did you use it for, on what kind of work and project size?
  • How long did setup and training take, and who on your team did it?
  • What does it cost you in practice, compared with what the sales call said?
