Matterport vs DroneDeploy

Two reality capture platforms that overlap indoors. Matterport turns camera or LiDAR scans into immersive 3D digital twins of interiors, with measurements, BIM and point cloud exports and Procore and Autodesk Forma workflows on Enterprise. DroneDeploy, now owned by Procore, captures sites from drones, robots, 360 cameras, fixed cameras and phones, with maps, earthworks cut/fill, 360 walks against BIM, and Progress AI and Safety AI add-ons. Partly like-for-like: both document interior conditions in 3D, but DroneDeploy covers aerial and earthworks work Matterport does not, and Matterport publishes per-space prices while DroneDeploy's team plans are quoted. Desk research from vendor sites read Oct 30, 2026; no winner.

What it doesPlatform for capturing and sharing immersive 3D digital twins for design and construction, facilities, real estate and property marketing. Construction use includes Procore and Autodesk integrations; facilities management, corporate real estate and property marketing (3D tours, floor plans, photos) are also listed, and the homepage says Matterport customers can publish their 3D tours anywhere. The plans page lists AI-powered defurnishing of a property among Professional features and Cotality and Xactimate among file exports (additional charges apply); Enterprise lists SSO/SAML, audit logs, monthly usage reporting, connected AECO workflows with Autodesk Forma and Procore, full API and SDK access, and Capture Services technicians in 700+ cities worldwide. The homepage has also promoted instant insurance sketches loaded into Cotality's Claims Estimate platform. Offers a free start tier (1 active space and 2 users) and an online store.Reality capture platform combining drones (including docked drones), 360° cameras, robots, fixed cameras and smartphones. The homepage leads with visual AI and robotics across all sites, with AI agents surfacing schedule or safety risks, and progress, quality (visual defect detection ranked by severity) and safety use cases. Aerial plans cover maps, 3D models, design overlays and earthworks cut/fill; Ground plans cover 360 walks, BIM/drawing overlays and phone-based 3D scans. Add-ons on the pricing page: Progress AI (progress reports from 360 walks and aerial imagery, no 3D model required), Safety AI (OSHA risk detection), Dock Automation, Robotic Automation and DroneDeploy Firewall; the platform menu also lists Earthworks AI, Industrial Inspection and a Data on Demand service. Integrations: Procore, Autodesk, Esri and others. Vendor claims ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type 2 and NIST 800-53 compliance (vendor claims). Procore announced an agreement to acquire DroneDeploy on July 29, 2026, and its Sept. 9, 2026 SEC filing says it completed the acquisition for about $845 million in cash. Questions to ask in your review

  • How many active Matterport spaces a multi-phase project would need at once
  • What DroneDeploy's Ground or Unified plan would cost for your sites
  • Whether DroneDeploy's phone and 360 scans meet the accuracy you would get from a LiDAR camera
  • What did you use it for, on what kind of work and project size?
  • How long did setup and training take, and who on your team did it?
  • What does it cost you in practice, compared with what the sales call said?
