Voxel vs Samsara

Two kinds of AI video safety. Not like-for-like (our reading): Voxel runs AI on a site's existing fixed IP cameras to flag ergonomic, PPE, vehicle and area risks in industrial facilities, and does not list construction as an industry; Samsara is a connected-operations platform with a construction offering built around AI dash cams, telematics for vehicles and yellow iron, asset tags and a worker-safety wearable. Neither publishes prices. Desk research from vendor sites read Nov 4, 2026; no winner.

What it doesAI platform that runs on existing IP cameras, grouped into Voxel Safety (ergonomics, area controls, vehicle safety, PPE monitoring, and environmental controls such as spills, obstructions and blocked exits), Voxel Quality (cold chain spoilage prevention, hygiene compliance, site condition) and Voxel Flow (cycle time, flow mapping), with actions, owners and reporting. The Safety page lists an Executive Hub, no facial recognition, face and body blurring, SOC 2 Type II with end-to-end encryption, and role-based access with SSO, and the homepage says it adapts to new environments within 48 hours (vendor statements). Its listed industries are logistics and supply chain, manufacturing and retail; construction is not listed, and examples are industrial operations such as ports and warehouses. An Oct 13, 2026 Voxel announcement says the Ventral AI engineering team (computer vision on moving equipment and fleets, and on data center buildouts and other high-precision construction sites) has joined Voxel's engineering organization (vendor announcement). Accuracy, camera-compatibility, training-hours and customer outcome figures are vendor claims and are not used.Connected-operations platform with a construction offering for fleet tracking, AI dash cams, equipment monitoring and worker safety. The construction page covers vehicles, heavy equipment and unpowered assets in one dashboard: GPS fleet tracking; OEM integrations without extra hardware (including Ford, GM, Stellantis, John Deere, Komatsu, Caterpillar, Volvo, CNH Industrial and Vermeer); Find My Asset; dual-facing and front-facing AI dash cams with real-time safety alerts and driver coaching; Asset Tag and Asset Tag XS for small and unpowered assets; asset scheduling; utilization, dormancy, power take off and machine-use reporting; preventive maintenance and remote fault-code alerts for vehicles and yellow iron; fuel reporting; and a worker-safety wearable (one-click SOS, fall detection, location sharing). Its AI and Agents page describes Samsara Assistant (plain-language questions about your operation), Agent Studio (start from a pre-built agent or describe a custom chat or voice agent in plain language that runs when a trigger fires, with permissions, audit trail, AI observability and AI evaluations listed as controls), Samsara MCP, which connects Samsara data to tools such as Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot while respecting existing permissions, and driver features such as in-cab guidance, start-of-shift briefings, AI-powered ride-alongs and automated calls when a high-risk pattern shows up (vendor description). Customer quotes with collision and savings figures are not used.

Where the vendor descriptions differ

  • Where the camera is: Voxel says it turns the cameras a site already has into a view of capacity, quality and safety risk, and that it works with most existing IP cameras. Samsara's construction page centers on its own dual-facing and front-facing AI dash cams in vehicles, with real-time safety alerts, driver coaching and on-demand video retrieval; its navigation also lists site security under Cameras and Video (vendor statements).
  • What it flags: Voxel's Safety page lists ergonomic and PPE risks, vehicle risks (speeding, unsafe stops, proximity hazards) and conditions such as spills, obstructions and blocked exits, with coaching inside the platform and an Executive Hub for leaders. Samsara's AI dash cams cover driver behavior on and off highway, and its Samsara Wearable offers one-click SOS, fall detection and location sharing for workers alone or in dangerous locations.
  • Beyond safety: Voxel also sells Voxel Quality (cold chain, hygiene, site condition) and Voxel Flow (cycle time, flow mapping). Samsara covers GPS fleet tracking, OEM integrations (Ford, GM, Stellantis, John Deere, Komatsu, Caterpillar, Volvo, CNH Industrial, Vermeer and more), Asset Tag and Asset Tag XS, maintenance and fuel reporting, plus Samsara Assistant, Agent Studio and Samsara MCP for AI agents on its data.
  • Privacy and access: Voxel's Safety page lists no facial recognition, face and body blurring, SOC 2 Type II with end-to-end encryption, and role-based access with SSO. Samsara's AI page lists permissions, an audit trail, AI observability and AI evaluations as controls for agents it runs.
  • Construction fit: Voxel's listed industries are logistics and supply chain, manufacturing and retail, with examples such as ports and warehouses; an Oct 13, 2026 Voxel announcement says the Ventral AI engineering team, which worked on moving equipment and construction sites, joined Voxel. Samsara has a dedicated construction industry page.
  • Pricing (read Nov 4, 2026): neither publishes prices. Voxel routes to Book a Meeting or sales. Samsara's pricing page opens a questionnaire that starts with how many vehicles or assets you have and shows no prices. See each tool page for detail.
  • Not used here: injury, cost and ROI percentages, collision figures and customer quotes (vendor material). Facts for both tools come from vendor websites (desk research).

Good or bad, an honest review from an estimator, PM or super helps the next team more than another vendor demo. You post under a handle; your email is never shown.

Questions to ask in your review

  • Whether your risk sits in a yard, shop or plant with fixed cameras, or in vehicles and equipment moving between jobs
  • Whether Voxel supports construction sites today
  • What either vendor charges for your camera, vehicle or asset count
  • What did you use it for, on what kind of work and project size?
  • How long did setup and training take, and who on your team did it?
  • What does it cost you in practice, compared with what the sales call said?
